[edit] History of "Europa 90 Football Club"

Guided and encouraged by the educational, social, cultural and health enhancing values of football, following the growing European integration process as well as tackling the fight against racism, a group of Europeans founded in the 80's the football club "Europa United".

The aim of the club was to be an open community for youngsters of all nationalities and social backgrounds who enjoy playing football together – regularly and organised – in their free time.

With the growing success of the concept, FC Europa United merged with the local football team of KEFC Kraainem in 1990 in order to give organisational and (infra) structural stability to the club as well as to give the possibility to the kids to take part in the regional and national championships.

Founded in 1916, local KEFC Kraainem looked back on a long and successful tradition in Belgian Football. On 3 December 1924, the club became member of the Belgian Football Association under the name of "Crainhem Esperance F.C." with the registration number 433. Since 1926, the club always played in the second, third and fourth Belgian Provincial Football Championships. At the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the club was rewarded with the "Royal" title. Playing first under "Royal Esperance Football Club Crainhem", the club was renamed "Koninklijke Esperance FC (KEFC) Kraainem" in 1973.

The merger of KEFC with "FC Europa United" to become a multinational sports training centre for youngsters was initiated and warmly welcomed by the local authorities of Kraainem in 1990.

Nowadays, the "Royal Europa 90 Kraainem FC" has 260 players from 33 countries with various social backgrounds who play football together peacefully, fair and successfully.

[edit] "Philosophy of "Europa 90 Football club": their education, social, cultural and health enhancing vision of football

Playing football is a fantastic Sport for everybody. It has an incredible educational, social, cultural and health enhancing potential – in particular for youngsters.

Promoting a pro-active, healthy and competitive society with solid virtues as fairness, team spirit and tolerance.

Participating in a team, learning principles such as fair-play, compliance with the rules of the game and respect for others, solidarity as well as discipline reinforce active citizenship and strengthen the civil society of tomorrow already in their early ages.

Fighting social exclusion and racism. Bringing people from contrasting cultures together contributes to integration, involvement in social life, tolerance and acceptance of differences – especially of under-represented groups.

Encouraging a "mobilisation culture" among young people with an equal accessibility to their football club facilities for all youngsters.

Helping to stop a declining physical activity trend among young people in Europe and the corresponding rise in sedentary behaviour and obesity.

Lack of physical activity and the occurrence of overweight have become a major societal problem. It is increasingly putting individuals at risk and draining economies of resources as result of growing health budgets and decreasing productivity due to loss of fitness in the workforce.
