Keep the page.. SEMI-PROTECTED

There's still people messing up with the page.. some are saying Egypt will participate, there was somebody talking about Chile.. I believe the page should remain semi-protected in order to avoid this kind of jokes.. In fact, I think its better if only the admins edit this page --User:Tony0106 15:57, July 26 2007 (UTC-7)

I would say that it is best idea to keep the page semi protected, with possibility the register users to only edit it.ChRiS

The Statement

"However, if two semi finals are introduced in 2008, only the winner and the "Big 4" will be automatically qualified" is not necessarily true. It could mean that instead of one big semifinal (28 in '07) there would be two smaller ones. Furthermore the president of ESC annouced that two semifinals would not happen in '08 but possibly in '09. I'm going to delete this from the article.

"However, if two semi finals are introduced in 2008, only the winner and the "Big 4" will be automatically qualified" refers to the countries (THE UK,Fracem,Germany and Spain plus the winner Serbia)to perform in the final. It is almost certain there will be 2 semifinals, since the neighbourhood voting dissappointed the countries such as Malta and Ireland. ChRiS

2 semis

I reverted the edits of [1], as it is not confirmed that 2 semis will be held. Also, it is unlikely Italy will return to the contest. 90.224.50.167 20:34, August 20 2007 (UTC+1)

Please.. stop this nonsense.. Admins, FULL PROTECTION TO THE PAGE NOW

FULL PROTECTION TO THE PAGE

Some members had been joking around with this article.. Admins, please put an end to this, and have this page full-protected immediately —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 09:17, August 21, 2007 (UTC).

If you wish to request protection of the page go to WP:RFPP and make a request. I have removed an edit protected template added to the article - this template is only to request an edit be made to an already protected article. Camaron1 | Chris 10:53, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Y Done - sorta. I've semi-protected the page, as it seems to be just new accounts & sockery. I'm reluctant to lock the article down completely at this point. Can we see how semi goes? If it's still bad, just get back to WP:RPP and we can re-evaluate it? Thanks - Alison 11:51, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

I totally support the full protection of this page.We should also keep an eye of the official websites of the eurovision song contest such as esctoday.com and the official webpages of the host broadcasters which is www.rts.co.yu/euro as well as the forum to look for more informations on whether there will be two semifinals. It is more likely that there will be two semifinals next year because that idea received such a positive feedack from the fans and participating countries of Eurovision.Plus in the final the top 5 countries AND the big 4 countries will participate in the GRAND FINAL.Eurovision cant be Eurovision without this rule:they are the major financial contributors of the Song contest...In less than a month this will be already known.

Another thing for Italy is that they WILL NOT return in Eurovision next year, however San Marino maybe will...Azerbaijan is in too as they are active members...and it is still unknown for Slovakia because they have the less financed state television of EBU members national televisions. And for the case of Italy,RAI recentlyopened an Italian language website for the Eurovision Song Contest which is http://www.eurofestival.tv/ For the countries of former Yugoslavia, they are confirmed participants, because they cant really boycott the event which will be hosted in a country that once was all federal communist country...so I think we should put next to Croatia,Slovenia,Bosnia and Macedonia that they will participate. They WILL NEVER boycott an event such as thisone... Again in the Dutch wikipedia it is written, and I think we should put this:

  • For Belgium Eddy Wally, Pim Symoens and Ivann will participate in the Belgian National Final
  • Germany:Tokyo Hotel wants to represent Germany and they will try it.
  • Iceland:Sylvia Night will try once again for Eurovision...
  • Russia:Mihai the 2006 Romanian representative wants to represent Russia at ESC.Sergey Lazarev is also another possible candidate...
  • Turkey: Hande Yener and Nez will bid to represent Turkey at Eurovision
  • Sweden: Carola and Helena Paparizou wants to participate once again in ESC.

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovisiesongfestival_2008 states that THE UK participation is confirmed and here somebody deleted that.Spain is confirmed too.Ireland and Sweden are confirmed too... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.161.76.219 (talk)

SEMI-PROTECTION IS NOT ENOUGH!!! There's still too much vandalism.. Where is the source saying that Italy will participate?? Where is the source saying Ireland confirmed participation?? Why you keep on deleting the source from Moldova??? Admins.. FULL PROTECTION NOW. Tony0106 12:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC-7)

OK, first of all... ask, don't demand. Second, there is not sufficient disruption to this page at this point to fully protect it. I know it's annoying, but you have other options available to you: RFC and dispute resolution, for instance. You may re-request at RFPP if neither of those seem to work, but I decline full protection at this point. - Philippe | Talk 19:08, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

This is ridiculous... I still don't understand why the keep on deleting sources and writing total false news.. I have tried absolutely everything... I don't understand why the full protection must be denied.. I think Wikipedia is in favour of vandalism.. Tony0106 01:15, 24 August 2007 (UTC-7)

I also wrote that Ireland is confirmed participant and somebody keeps deleting that...I even put a source about that several times...and people please keep sticking to esctoday and other websites and do not delete the sources once again...this is really ridiculous.I want FULL PROTECTION,because it is obvious that this page is under attack of vandalism!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChRis (talkcontribs) 01:11, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Next time you confirm Ireland as a participant, put the source beside it. For me, I keep on deleting the one from the Czech Republic, cause as far as I was concerned they were unsure to comeback next year after a last place with 1 point. There's also no confirmation from Poland or Slovenia... And I BEG TO THAT HUMAN BEING WHO IS CONFIRIMING TH PARTICIPATION OF ITALY.. TO PLEASE STOP DOING THAT.. UNLESS YOU HAD A RELIABLE SOURCE.. PLEASE —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 01:46, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

For Poland,I suggest you to look on the Polish wikipedia, because they have an article in Polish Language...Only Andorra Lithuania and Moldova are not confirmed participants according to the French and Polish wikipedias...

Dont believe in Wikipedia, Im trying to save the article and the admins dont pay attention to me.. Theres people saying Italy confirmed participation, Macedonia withdrew, 2 semifinals with only Russia qualified for the final.. Many stupid things.. They keep on deleting the sources from esctoday.com.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 12:44, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Italy will not participate because they are not confirmed...thats just stupidity of thosepeople who put that Italy will participate... I'm Macedonian and I heard that first time from you that Macedonia will withdraw...thats silly thing...and thats not true...By the way...all the countries WILL confirm participation...it is just a question of time when they will confirm...its all the same as the previous years...And we will know 100 percent for sure if there will be 2 semis next month...and then the speculations will end... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 04:47, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

Romania

Romania is confirmed participant for Belgrade:link: http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rom%C3%A2nia_la_Eurovision_2008 in Romanian language... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.167.194.248 (talk) 02:32, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

The Polish wikipedia have an Article about the Eurovision Song Contest: http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konkurs_Piosenki_Eurowizji_2008 It says who will participate and who wont as it tells also that Andorra is confirmed participant...http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concours_Eurovision_de_la_chanson_2008 also confirmes that France will partticipate...so i think it will be much better idea to put the correct info, and to look in other languages of wikipedia...as a reference... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.167.194.248 (talk)

Other wikipedia articles cannot be reliable sources, as you can see, theres too much vandalism in all of them.. and the admins dont wanna do nothing about it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 12:49, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Slovakia 2

Some member from the Eurovision forums wrote to the International relations manager of STV: This is what does it say: Dear Mr. Kuipers,

Thank you for your kind e-mail and for your anxiety over STV's participation in ESC. STV hopes that our television, which is one of the smallest in Europe, would be able to allocate enough financial sources to be able to pay for ESC rights next year.

With kind regards,

Elena Mallickova International Relations Director, STV

Semi-protection template

The semi-protection template on this article seems to be been removed without explanation by Mumi.mumi (talk · contribs) every 24 hours currently, despite me attempting to contact this user via his/her talk page in a request to stop removing it a number of times. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do now? I don't see any reason why the template should be removed, it helpfully shows the article is semi-protected, why it is semi-protected, and how long for. Camaron1 | Chris 20:26, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

No man.. theres absolutely nothing you can do.. He will keep on deleting it, no matter what.. Its up to us, to put it back again... The admins wont do absolutely anything about this.. So we are screw —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 22:21, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Have you tried asking an admin to do something about it? hint, hint... The Rambling Man 11:35, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I noticed this time. Editor blocked for a short period, tag restored. Let me know if it happens again (after 48 hours or so...) The Rambling Man 11:52, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Mumi.mumi is back making the same disruptive edits as before now his/her block has expired. I have reverted the changes he/she has made, given a level 4 warning, and contacted an admin as instructed above. Camaron1 | Chris 14:39, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Ireland

Hi, can somebody please tell me (providing a reliable source) when did Ireland confirm participation or state that they're not eager to withdraw anymore??? Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 22:56, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Andorra is cofirmed

Andorra is cofirmed participant for Belgrade. The Andorran delegation members Creu Rossell though confirmed that at the moment ATV has no intention to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChRis (talkcontribs) 02:06, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Iceland & Bulgaria

I have restored Iceland and Bulgaria again on the national finals listing. I am little confused on why they were removed. They were both sourced and I cannot see anything immediately wrong with the sources given. If they are removed again, can the remover please state why. Thanks. Camaron1 | Chris 09:42, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Those arent national finals, just heats/semifinals that would lead to the National Final.. Complete details about the National SELECTIONS will be updated in December.. I have to ask, why we cannot build the 2008 page the same way we did in 2007 ??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 07:17, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Alright I see, keep them removed them - I thought there would be a good reason. Camaron1 | Chris 16:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

It is good idea I think. We should start bulding the page tha same as we did for 2007.And for the National Finals,I'm quite sure that the Bulgarian,Albanian and Swedish Nationa Finals are definitely in those dates announced and written on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk)

I don't see why we can't keep it to the structure of the other page either, it is work in progress though, the 2007 one currently has many sections this one can't have. Camaron1 | Chris 16:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Czech Republic

where is the source that confirmed the participation of the Czech Republic? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 05:49, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Use of italics

I am concerned on the interpretations been made of sources in the National Finals section. It says for Israel that the national final will be held in December 2007, yet the source says The national final is expected to be held as early as the end of December 2007 - meaning it could be later. I notice some of the dates are in italics, I assume this is supposed to mark dates that are unclear - I doubt most readers will realise that is what the italics mean, and there is nothing I can find in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting) that endorses the use of italics in this way anyway. For the time being I am adding a tag to that section marking my concerns - I am now planning to re-clean that section to make it as clear as possible. Camaron1 | Chris 18:07, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

The decision

What was decided about the two semifinals thing?Whether there will be two semi-finals or not, will be decided on September 28.Today was September 28?Any news? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 12:43, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

The Eurovision Song Contest format for 2008 will, as written by esctoday.com a few weeks ago, change to a two semi final system. At a meeting of the TV Committee of the European Broadcasting Union in Verona today, it was decided to approve the proposal of hosting two Semi-Finals for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. The proposal was put together by the Reference Group of the contest. Only the Host Country, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom are automatically qualified for the Final. All other participants will participate in one of two Semi-Finals.

Executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Svante Stockselius told eurovision.tv:

We are convinced that the introduction of a second Semi-Final contributes to a more stable future for the Eurovision Song Contest...We carefully listened to the suggestions of Members and fans and we took notice of the critical remarks in the press. After evaluating several scenarios, it was decided to introduce a second Semi-Final already in 2008. This increases the fairness of the competition, opens doors to a more interesting final and production-wise, it is the most flexible solution, he underlined.

We have to change everything —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 13:49, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

You mean this news article [2]; yes it indeed looks like we are going to have to make some big changes to the article, including perhaps some details of the news of this new way of running ESC. I have added an update tag to the article - please do not remove it until the article is fully updated. Camaron1 | Chris 16:01, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Has it really been confirmed that both semi-finals will be held the same night?--Eurowizion 19:36, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

They said, the draw, and the dates for the final will be revealed later in the year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 01:47, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

The article seems up-to-date now except for the map at the bottom - so I have removed the update tag except for that section. Camaron1 | Chris 14:45, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

The map has been updated now. Chwech 16:43, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Poland?

when did Poland confirmed participation —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 06:31, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

For the time nowI really cant find a source that confirms Polish participation besides the Polish language wikipedia.BUT as you said we cant count them as a sources,so I will say let us wait a bit longer. http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konkurs_Piosenki_Eurowizji_2008#Udzia.C5.82_Polski states that they will orginise their preselection event Piosenka dla Europy 2008 next year.If someone can read Polish will be great what they have written. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 06:16, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

There is an article which was in Polish and is translated:

The Polish Television (TVP) delegation in Helsinki stated that Poland will take part in the 53th Eurovision Song Contest. Public national pre-qualifier contest entitled "Piosenka dla Europy 2008" is planned but contrary to previous years the selection process will be reformed. More information is scheduled for summer this year.

In one of press articles the head of the TVP Entertainment Department Gina Komasa dismissed rumours saying that Poland was going to withdraw from Eurovison 2008. She also warned that the formula for choosing Poland's nominee must be thoroughly changed because the country not only is not successful in the Contest but also the Polish Eurovision Contest audience has been drasticly diminishing.

Wikipedia pages are not reliable sources.. Therefore Poland won't be confimed as participant, neither will Slovenia. So stop editing that —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 20:27, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

You shoudent use Wikipedia pages themselves as sources, but you can use sources provided on other Wikipedia pages if there are any. Camaron1 | Chris 20:32, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Poland will take part in ESC 2008. If you can read Polish and understand it read this: http://www.eurowizja.org/08_news.php?id=2362. It says that within 2 weeks time the polish broadcaster will anounce the rules of selection of the 2008 representative and it is still unknown if it will be selected internally or through the national final. So stop changing it, you fools!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Przemo27 (talk • contribs) 21:51, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

The Netherlands

Can you please tell me why did you remove the Netherlands off the national finals list? That country confirmed that it will take part and plus again it will held an internal selection... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 00:59, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Azerbaijan

I would suggest we keep Azerbaijan in the "Possible new participants" section for now as it is unclear on if they will participate this year, as sourced. Camaron1 | Chris 14:02, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

This is what news i found regarding Azerbaijan participation in esc:

Update:Jury has prepared shortlist of 10 canidates, who will be again invited on castings in 9th of October. They are: Sabina Babaeva, winner of "Sing Your Song" contest Elnur, participants of "Academy" contest Aitaj and Hayam, Jabir, Elton Guseinaliev, Emil Aliev, band "Sheron" led by Rustam Zeinalla,Natavan Habibi bands Unformal and Aipara. It is expected as result of these castings the ESC 2008 representative will be appointed.

All article can be read at esckaz.com/2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 10:16, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I have had a look at the page and it does appear to be suggesting that Azerbaijan will debut. If we do move Azerbaijan from its current position it might fit in well in a new section such as "Confirmed new participants". Camaron1 | Chris 10:54, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I have restored the "Confirmed new participants section", which was recently removed without comment. My reasoning is as follows; I don't see anything wrong with it and removing it just lowers the encyclopedic value of the article. Without it, there would be nothing in the article that talks about Azerbaijan debuting, such as dates e.t.c, which would be a gap in my opinion (apart from this, only the infobox would mention the debut). The content could perhaps be moved elsewhere and put into prose, but just deleting it is not necessary. Camaron1 | Chris 17:53, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

How many times do you have to confirmed that.. The article is already gettin to long.. Once again, why we cannot build the article the same way as last years'? You can put the link beside the Azerbaijan name on the list of participants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 05:32, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure how the article is getting to long, the article is currently well within size recommendations. The article is going to have to be different from last year, due to the change in format, and simply because it is a different year. I am going to leave it for now, but please give a reason for removing content on the talk page or in the edit summary, when you remove it the first time. Camaron1 | Chris 16:38, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Now Slovenia and Georgia

Confirm the participation of Slovenia and Georgia.. by providing a reliable source (NOT wikipedia or unofficial fansites) if its not in english (please provide a brief translation of the article)

Italy and Jordan definitively out of ESC 2008

Hello, I'm an ESC fan from Brazil. I knew today that Italy, sadly, will not join the next Eurovision Song Contest, because RAI and European Broadcasting Union still have debts between themselves. I'm so sad, because I want to see Italy back soon to the Eurovision Song Contest. And Jordan also will not join ESC because do not recognize Israel as an Independent State. So, I had make some changes in the ESC 2008 page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.131.17.230 (talk) 22:05, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Italy has been moved several times recently, some saying that it could possibly participate, others saying it definitely won't. I agree that it is unlikely that Italy will take part in ESC this year, but unless a reliable source is found spelling out it won't participate, then I suggest we keep it in the other members section. Camaron1 | Chris 08:57, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey you, Brazilian fan, Jordan is one of the few Muslim countries who does recognize the State of Israel. [[3]] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tony0106 (talkcontribs) 22:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Well spotted Tony. Jordan has quite a pro-Western foreign policy so there should be no problem with them broadcasting a Israeli entry. Camaron1 | Chris 08:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

So does that mean that they have more chances of participating than Lebanon? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.161.76.219 (talk) 01:25, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
