[edit] Re-organization & editing

There is some good information in the article and it needs some editing. I have some general knowledge of Spanish, Mexican and American colonization of the South West. Most concerning the interaction with the people who were living in these areas. References to Pimeria Alta and Querechos initially caught my attention.

  • The material needs to be reorganized. For example: European colonization should include several non-Native American groups, the intro jumps into Spanish, with no mention of the significant American settlement later.
    • Is this article going to be divided by areas of Arizona, or by a time line, or by European group (using either time line or area combination).
    • I personally like some sort of overall time line, with sub headings describing periods of time as in the template (Spanish, Mexican, Territorial).
  • There are too many assumptions.
    • Just one example: PimerĂa Alta is never simply described, I had to click on the link (which was good) which went to a stub that just enough info that I got the idea. There are many others.
  • Lots of this information does not belong here.
    • For example, the Spanish reported the use of dogs as beasts of burden on the plains, east of the Rocky Mountains. While this is interesting, it is not about Native American practices in Arizona.
  • "No citations" is not important to me.
    • I have references, maybe I will put a see also or for further reading.
    • If this is important to others, then please do it. I guess I also have issues with citations in Wikipedia unless it is for a quoted material. I don't mind giving citations on discussion pages.

That is my perspective and I am sticking to it for now :) --Rcollman (talk) 12:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
