The Eurovision Dance Contest 2008 will be the second Eurovision Dance Contest and will be held in Glasgow,[3] United Kingdom, hosted by the BBC[4] on 6 September.[5]
In a change to the rules, professional couples are no longer eligible to enter the contest. At least one dancer from each couple must be an amateur.[6] A further change is that each couple will only perform once. In 2007 each couple performed a ballroom or latin routine followed by a dance incorporating national flavour; in the 2008 contest, couples will only perform the latter.[7]
[edit] Participants
According to the 2007 rules Section 2.2[8] on the official website, all entrants in the Eurovision Dance Contest 2007 agreed to take part in 2008 when signing up for the first contest. Albania, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cyprus, Iceland, Israel and FYR Macedonia are planning to make their début in 2008 after broadcasting the 2007 contest.[9][10][11] However, the admission of new countries will depend on whether the European Broadcasting Union decides to expand the contest and what the maximum number of participants will be.
As the number of dances has been reduced from 2007, with each couple performing once instead of twice, new countries have been allowed to enter the competition. The first new country to confirm their participation is Azerbaijan. [12]
