The EuroSonic Festival is an annual music competition run by Eurosonic. The event is held each year in Groningen in the Netherlands during the month of January, with many European countries taking part. On the Thursday and Friday night of the festival, the entire city centre of Groningen is invaded by over 140 acts who perform in 25 venues. With a number of significant European booking agents, the 41 ETEP-festivals, the EBU, Yourope, IMMF en Network Europe supporting the programme, EuroSonic is the most extensive and progressive showcase festival in Europe. EuroSonic is part of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest professional association of national broadcasters in the world. The Union, whose headquarters are in Geneva, has 74 active members in 55 European, North African and Middle Eastern countries.
