The first class of the ESMT fulltime MBA finished the course of study on December 15, 2006. The 29 participants completed 30 weeks of lectures and classes, 12 weeks of project and practice work as well as 6 weeks of individual studies. The international group (made up of 4 women and 25 men from 14 different nations including China, Greece, India, Ireland, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Slovenia, Spain, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States and also including six Germans) have now begun a new career phase as managers. A majority of the students already had job offers upon graduation. These included management positions in companies such as Allianz, Siemens and ThyssenKrupp.

There are 31 students in the third intake. The eight women and 23 men come from 14 different countries (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, Turkey and the USA). Four candidates have been sent by ESMT founding companies. The average age of the class is around 31, and the group has an average of seven years of work experience. Tuition and fees for the one-year program amount to EUR 38,000 for self-sponsored students and EUR 50,000 for corporate sponsored students. The tuition fees for participants nominated by a founding company are paid by the relevant company.

The MBA is a one-year Full-time MBA consisting of two phases. During the first seven months, the focus lies on management competences, while leadership challenges are tackled during the following five months. Classes are held exclusively in English. The partner companies are actively involved in the know-how exchange, and real-life projects enrich the MBA program. In addition to an academic mentor, each student has a company mentor who supports the student’s personal development.

Prerequisites for participating in the ESMT MBA are a strong first degree and at least three years of work experience. Furthermore, the candidate is asked to hand in two letters of recommendation as well as four essays. Applicants must also provide GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) results and demonstrate good English skills. The final selection is made after a personal interview of the candidate by a member of the ESMT faculty.

[edit] Executive MBA (EMBA)

ESMT's Executive MBA, started in autumn 2007, runs for 21 months, and graduates are awarded the degree of Master of Business Administration. The program is held in English. It focuses on International Management and Technology & Innovation.

The EMBA is made up of residential modules and web-enabled study. During the entire program, participants meet at one of ESMT’s campuses and at other locations. The program also includes one international field seminar.

Admission requirements include an undergraduate degree, several years of practical work experience as well as management experience. Applicants also have to submit GMAT results. The final step of the admissions process is an interview.

[edit] Campus Locations

[edit] Berlin

ESMT's headquarters and main campus is located in the former GDR Staatsratsgebäude in the heart of Berlin at Schlossplatz 1. Constructed in 1960s’ socialist architectural style to host the Staatsrat (National Council) of the GDR, it represented the supreme institution of the East German state governance.

The transformation of the Staatsratgebäude into a modern learning institution started in 2004 and was completed at the end of 2005. The main foyer is accessible to the public, and ESMT offers guided tours on the last Friday of each month.

[edit] Cologne

ESMT's Cologne campus Schloss Gracht, a historic site where the Metternich family lived for centuries, has served as a beautiful retreat for executive education for decades. Near the city of Cologne, the lakeside castle of Gracht and its adjacent guest house offer a traditional setting equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for executive education.
