The European Journalism Observatory (EJO) is a media research institute at the University of Lugano. Its mission is to build bridges between journalism and media research in Europe and the US. It monitors journalism trends in these countries and publishes its findings on its online platform, but it also synthesizes and translates articles and research studies by other scientists and makes these equally available. Hence these research findings reach a wider audience, including media practionners, and journalism monitoring is no longer confined to fail at language barriers.
The EJO also co-hosts an annual international conference in the field of media journalism which takes place in the first half of the year in Lugano or Lucerne. It organizes also several other events related to journalism topics.
In tribute to its contributions to high-quality journalism, the EJO has received the "Medien-Award 2005".
