European Council on Refugees and Exiles
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE) is a pan-European network of refugee-assisting non-governmental organisations that promotes a humane and generous European asylum policy. ECRE celebrated its 30th year of promoting the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in Europe in 2004.
It has a membership of around 80 non-governmental organisations from 30 Countries. Among these are national refugee councils from all member states of the European Union, for example the Hungarian Helsinki Committee and the Scottish Refugee Council. The organization is still growing.
The ECRE Secretariat monitors the policies of the European Union in relation to asylum. It works through research, information, policy development and advocacy with and on behalf of its members.
