EUobserver.com is an independent news website focussing on the European Union. The website is owned by EUobserver.com ASBL, a non-profit association registered in Belgium law.[1] The website claims to be the largest online daily news site focused on the EU with over 35,000 readers and the second most read EU-related news source used by journalists after the Financial Times.[2]
In 2003, the website temporarily agreed to put their story summaries in the public domain so that they could be used in Wikipedia's Current events pages.[3]
2 June 2008, the website was redesigned in order to be "in compliance with modern web standards as specified by The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)."[4] The update also introduced video capabilities, blogs and chat.
The website's editor is the wife of Jens-Peter Bonde, a Danish Member of the European Parliament who co-chairs the Independence and Democracy group of eurosceptic MEPs in the European Parliament.[5]
