Eukanuba is a brand name of cat and dog foods sold by the Iams company since 1972, owned by Procter & Gamble. Dry pet food products sold by Eukanuba are manufactured in-house, and are not subcontracted. Some of the Eukanuba-brand wet foods sold in North America are manufactured by Menu Foods Income Fund of Ontario, Canada though analysts speculate whether that relationship will continue after a June 11, 2007 press release from Menu Foods stated a significant customer discontinued purchases for cuts and gravy products. Under the Eukanuba label, Iams sells a wide variety of dietary choices for pets, including soft and hard foods, as well as an array of treat products. They also provide specialized veterinarian prescription diets for treatment of various ailments, including allergies and digestion problems.

[edit] Ingredients

Eukanuba states on its website that only high quality ingredients,[4] are used in the food. Some of the Eukanuba foods contain ingredients such as chicken by-product meal, brewers rice, and fish meal. [5]

[edit] Origin of the Eukanuba brand

In order to differentiate Eukanuba as a "super premium" product from other Iams brands and create a "memorable" name, Paul Iams chose the word "eukanuba".[citation needed]

Hoagy Carmichael is typically credited as the originator of the term, as an interjection meaning "great" or "excellent".[citation needed]
