Eugene Franklin Rice, Jr. (b. 20 August 1924) is an American historian specializing in the Church Fathers, Early Modern Europe, and the history of homosexuality in the West.
Rice was born in Lexington, Kentucky and was raised in Puerto Rico. He was educated at The Eaglebrook School, Philips-Exeter Academy, and Harvard University.
A long-time member of the faculty of Columbia University, he was chairman of its History Department in the early 1970s and, upon retirement, became Shepherd Professor of History Emeritus.
Prof. Rice is a member of the American Philosophical Society.
