Euchilichthys astatodon |
Euchilichthys is a genus of catfishes (order Siluriformes) of the family Mochokidae. It includes five species, E. astatodon, E. boulengeri, E. dybowskii, E. guentheri, and E. royauxi.[1]
E. astatodon and E. boulengeri originate from the Kasai River. E. dybowskii inhabits the Ja River of the Congo River basin in Cameroon. E. guentheri is known from the Congo River basin, up to the Bangweulu River system. E. royauxi is distributed in the Congo River basin, up to the Moero Lake system.[1]
Euchilichthys species have the lips and part of the barbels modified into a suckermouth.[2] E. boulengeri and E. dybowskii are smaller species, growing to about 9.7 centimetres TL and 11.2 cm TL respectively.[3][4] E. astatodon, E. guentheri, and E. royauxi grow to about 18.05–22.0 cm ( in) TL.[5][6][7]
