[edit] MOO!

W00T Hiya hot stuff! *grins* Yes, I'm the same Uther. I'm no longer interested in my objects on Lambda. If you could disperse them to trusted and interested others, that would be fine. If you want to take them over yourself, you have my blessing. - UtherSRG 16:38, Apr 9, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] great work

Wow excellent work on Manually Coded English! This is a valuable contribution to wikipedia. Thanks for following up on my suggestion. I'm making a few changes now to make it less US-centric and when I have more time i will try to get stuff to link there. If u look at the 'what links here' page of SSE, a lot of them should more properly link to MCE. Thanks again! -- ntennis 23:24, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Now done - ntennis 07:04, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] DC Meetup will be May 7/8

The DC Meetup date has been finalized to May 7/8. Even if you can only come one of the days, that's still fine. Please watch this page for new details, which will be posted in the next couple days: Wikipedia:Meetup/Wikipedians of the East Coast field trip --brian0918 16:12, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User language boxes for sign language

Hello :)

I just created user language boxes for sign language, similar to the ones that exist for spoken languages. You may like to have a look. Any feedback is of course welcome!

Cheers, ntennis 09:06, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

Extremely cool, thanks! -Etoile 13:19, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] User Categorization

Hello! We are working on a new system that will categorize the users. Please take a moment to move your user page into the category Category:Wikipedians in Virginia and removing your name from the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Virginia page.

To add your name to the category, please use the tag [[Category:Wikipedians in Viginia|Etoile]] to sort yourself correctly.

I hope my blurb on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (capitalization) answers your question.

Hello Etoile! I saw your birthday userbox, so as we say in Germany, Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag! I'm also here to give you a present:

Cass This user knows that you gotta make your own kind of music.

(in my mind, the greatest inspirational song ever). Once again, I wish you a very happy birthday!- JustPhil 00:20, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deaf WikiProject

Hello :)

There are now eight names on the project. What are your thoughts on if (and when) we should make it official, and move it from my namespace? Please respond to the open forum at User talk:Ntennis/Deaf WikiProject proposal. Thanks! ntennis 02:14, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Child of Deaf Adult

I have noticed that you are affiliated with sign language in one way or another. The article on CODAs needs quite a bit of work, and I think is an important article to have as a part of Wikipedia. I would like to invite you to participate in making it a better article. — Esprit15d 20:01, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Wiki

Hello. I notice you have a depression userbox on your user page. I'm working on a new wiki for people with depression over at Wikicities (a project started by Jimbo and Angela). The idea is to create the ultimate resource for people affected by depression, with information on medication, therapies, helpful organisations and a lot more. I wonder if you would be interested in contributing to it? It's very young at the moment, but if we can build a community over there it should get off the ground. If you'd like to look it over, it's at http://depression.wikicities.com . I would be great if you would give it a glance. Thanks -- sannse (talk) 11:19, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] India.ogg

Hi,

Saw you write reporting about the quality of Spoken article. I don't know why this happened because in my computer, playing the same file at 50% volume in VLC Player and 50% volume in speakers (making it 25% volume) was even very loud for normal hearing. So I didn't find any need to re-normalize the volume. I really don't want to raise the volume of the file unless I am sure that the problem is with the audio in question. If I get a second opinion confirming this, I will surely do it. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Btown36.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Btown36.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 05:24, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deaf-mute

Hi Etoile. I'm seeking opinions and possible support for an issue in which I'm in a debate with other Wikipedians. I'm trying to change indiscrimant use of the term "deaf-mute" in describing deaf people in general. To see some comments related to the issue, see Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, as well as my own Talk page, User talk:Ward3001. You can also follow the links to other discussions. Right now I'm about the only person addressing the issue because deaf people are such a small minority. Other Wikipedians, with apparently no prior knowledge of the issue, are reverting my edits. If you're interesting in expressing your opinion, feel free to do so. If you wish to discuss further please leave me a message on my Talk page. Thanks. Ward3001 17:33, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

MANY THANKS for you comments on Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter! I was beginning to feel very alone on this issue. If you can drum up some more support that would be great. I may contact NAD and some contacts at Gallaudet. Again, thanks for lending your voice. Ward3001 19:03, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm again asking those who commented against using "deaf-mute" to once again help me out. There is a persistent user who has repeatedly reverted "deaf" to "deaf-mute", and has again reverted (and probably will do so again until this issue is mediated [in process] or arbitrated). So far I'm the only one who has reverted it back to "deaf". If others could please put The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter on your watchlist and revert when necessary, I think it would have a much bigger impact. Just be careful not to violate the 3-revert-rule. As I'm writing this, the article needs reversion. There are four instances in the article where "deaf" is being reverted to "deaf-mute". I would greatly appreciate others in addition to myself making the reverts back to "deaf". As always, many thanks. Ward3001 03:28, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Note regarding mediation

24.0.97.119 ignored the mediation request (neither agreeing nor disagreeing), yet continues to revert "deaf" to "deaf-mute". Please continue to monitor The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. If this continues, I will ask everyone's opinion about seeking formal arbitration from Wikipedia. Arbitration results in a binding decision. Thanks. Ward3001 00:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DC Meetup notice

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Virginia, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 22:07, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs (talk) 13:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Celebrity galaxy ship.jpeg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Polly (Parrot) 23:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I think that's a superb image. You get a much better sense of its scale. Rossrs (talk) 07:21, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
