Ethnicity and Democratic Governance (EDG) is a five-year Major Collaborative Research Initiative funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. It is headquarted at Queen’s University at Kingston, in close association with the University of Toronto and the Université du Québec à Montréal. The project began in January 2006 under the direction of Professor Emeritus of Political Studies Bruce Berman of Queen's University . The research team includes collaborators from seven countries in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, representing disciplines ranging from political science and law to philosophy and anthropology.

The project's central research question is "How can societies respond to the opportunities and challenges raised by ethnic, linguistic, religious, and cultural differences, and do so in ways that promote democracy, social justice, peace and stability?"
