[edit] Character history
[edit] Birth right
Character Ethan Ramsey is first introduced as coming to the fictional town of Pine Valley in 2004 hell-bent on claiming his birth right — Cambias Industries. He recently learned that he was adopted and that his biological father was the late Alexander Cambias, Jr. His claims are not backed up with hard evidence, however, as the entire Cambias family (including grandfather Alexander Cambias, Sr. and uncle Michael Cambias) are deceased, along with his real mother, Hannah Nichols.
Because of this, he gains many enemies in town, mainly Ryan Lavery, who had befriended Alexander, Sr. shortly before his death and is made heir of the Cambias fortune. Ethan becomes close friends with Lavery's ex, Kendall Hart, and her sister, Bianca Montgomery, who is the mother of Ethan's dead cousin, Miranda Montgomery, the product of Michael Cambias' rape of Bianca. Not long after coming to town, Ethan becomes the prime suspect when Ryan is the target of attempted murder. If Ryan had died, Ethan would have had a better chance of getting the company that he feels he has rights to. Kendall supports Ethan and after he is deemed innocent, they begin a romantic relationship.
[edit] Father
What Ethan, and the rest of Pine Valley don't know is that Zach Slater, a casino owner from Las Vegas, is really Alexander Cambias Jr., who had faked his death many years ago. When Zach learns that Ethan could be his son, he performs a secret DNA test which confirms it. Zach reveals his true identity to the town, but fails to acknowledge Ethan as his son, in order to protect him from the so-called "Cambias curse," which Zach thinks will turn Ethan into a greedy, tyrannical businessman, similar to his father and brother.
A rifle is found in Ethan's possession, the kind that was used to shoot Ryan, so the police department holds him in custody again. This time, while Ethan is in jail, Zach shoots at Ryan and his wife, Greenlee Smythe, in order to get Ethan acquitted so that he can follow his plans to leave town. Ethan is set free, but he decides to stay in town with Kendall. Zach is frustrated and then tries to get Kendall to break up with Ethan, but his scheme only brings the two lovers closer together.
After Bianca learns that her daughter, Miranda, is indeed alive, she begins to believe that Zach has lied and that Ethan is really his son. A DNA test is performed for Miranda and Ethan, and the tests come back positive. Ethan changes his last name to Cambias and assumes his position as a member of Cambias Industries. He also plans to destroy Zach for lying to him and keeping him from the fortune, which concerns Kendall, who doesn't want the "Cambias curse" to prove true.
Zach is still determined to free Ethan from the curse and fights to take the company from him. Ethan aligns with Edmund Grey to take Zach down, but after Edmund is mysteriously murdered, Ethan tells the police that he saw Zach commit the crime. Ethan swears on his love for Kendall that he saw Zach do it, but deep down, he knows that he is lying. It is revealed by Lily Montgomery that Zach did not kill Edmund, that Jonathan Lavery did, and Kendall is heartbroken. She dumps Ethan and becomes engaged to Zach to spite Ethan.
[edit] End with Kendall, start with Simone
Ethan pleads with Kendall to come back to him, and she agrees, under the condition he finally give up Cambias Industries. Ethan refuses, and Kendall leaves again. Realizing the error of his ways, he changes his mind, but it is too late. Zach and Kendall are married and Ethan writes the both of them off. To fill his time, Ethan begins seeing Simone Torres, Kendall's employee at her company, Fusion Cosmetics, which is owned by Cambias.
[edit] Death
As a pledge of his love for Simone, Ethan gives his shares in Fusion to her, making her an equal party in the business, angering Kendall. In 2006, the Mardi Gras Ball explodes, which has Ethan, Simone, and Zach trapped in the bottom. Ethan suffers major internal injuries and is taken to the hospital. His last words to his father were full of bitterness, he dies on February 20, 2006 during emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding. His Estate consists of a generous Trust Fund and his shares in Cambias Industries, which Simone (Trust Fund) and Ryan Lavery (Cambias Industries) receive.
