Estahban is a city in Fars Province, Iran. It is the capital of Estahban County. The county is very fertile, which produces grain, cotton, tobacco and fruit. Estahban has been the most famous provider of fig to the world. It is also one of the biggest producers of saffron.
It's original name was Estahbanat with a fully different spelling اصطهبانات which was changed in the 1970s to be more simple. It is also said that the name is derived from "سته بان" ("Setah Baan") with the meaning of vineyard.
Estahbanat has been a center of Shiat religious studies in the last two centuries. Elders used to call it "نجف اصغر" ("The Small Najaf".)
The most famous and regarded man in the history of Estahban, is Mirza Agha Seyed Ebrahim Estahbanati (آية الله العظمي آقا ميرزا آقا اصطهباناتي) who died in 1953 in Najaf. He was a religious leader.
