Estadio Municipal Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Estadio Municipal Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso is a multi-use stadium in Coquimbo, Chile. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Coquimbo Unido. The stadium was inaugurated on July 1, 1970 and holds 15,000 people.
In 2007 the stadium was selected as a venue for the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, and to comply with FIFA standards, its facilities will be improved and its capacity will be increased to 18,000. The rebuilt stadium will take the form of a ship in homage to Coquimbo's maritime tradition, the city being famous for its port and pirate lore. The changes are due to be completed by September 2008.
