Esperanza, Dominican Republic

Esperanza is a municipality (municipio) of the Valverde province in the Dominican Republic. Within the municipality there are three municipal districts (distritos municipal): Boca de Mao, Jicomé and Maizal.[1]

As of the 2002 census the municipality had a total population of 61,903 inhabitants, 46,271 living in its urban settlements and 15,632 in its rural districts (Secciones). 47,532 did live in its seat (cabecera literally head), 41,189 in the city of Esperanza itself and 6,343 in its rural districts. The municipal districts had the following population: Jicomé 5,021 inhabitants (1,716 living in the town itself and 3.305 in its rural districts) and Maizal 9,350 inhabitants (3,366 urban and 5,984 rural).
