Espéraza

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Espéraza is in south-western France, in the Aude département, lying on the River Aude, just north of the foothills of the Pyrenees.

The church was built during the 13th century.

In the early 20th century, Espéraza was known for hat making. The town has a Hat Making Museum.

There is also a museum with a collection of fossil bones and eggs discovered in the area during the end of the 19th century, and life size reconstructions of dinosaurs.

One of the old pilgrimage routes to Santiago (St-Jacques) de Compostella passes this way, through the mountains and on into Spain.
