ESPN Extreme Games

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ESPN Extreme Games was a Playstation launch title exclusive from November 1995. The game featured all the sports included in the Summer X-Games in 1995. Although the game didn't feature events like the half pipe for skate boarding it was more of a Road Rash-like game published by SCEA. The game featured many different sports including; Skateboarding, Roller blading, Street Luge, and Mountain Biking. The "tracks" start at one end of a city and progress along a linear path to another point of the city, while you kick and punch you opponents while you try to obtain cash and get 1st place. The "tracks" were locations around the world, including Tahoe, San Francisco, and many others. The game was available in a large cd jewel case (ala Sega CD games) and was later released in a cd sized jewel case (similar to cd's).

[edit] Oddity

The license to ESPN's name on the game must have run out since the game was renamed 1Xtreme and the ESPN logo and Name were pulled from the game title and content referring to ESPn in the game was also pulled

[edit] Description for 1Xtreme

1XTREME brings the excitement of extreme sports to the PlayStation. Pick one of four unique apparatuses including inline skates, skateboards, mountain bikes, and street luge and hit one of the five tracks. While out on the track, get past obstacles and pass through gates to collect points and money. If you get through all of the gates on a track, you’ll earn a trip to the Money Hall to collect even more cash, which will earn better equipment. If the opponents are getting between you and the cash, you can always punch and kick them out of the way. Take on the computer with the exhibition or season mode, and when the computer-controlled opponents start to fall too easily, challenge a friend with two-player split-screen action. When the need for speed arises, play 1XTREME.
