[edit] Paulins Kill Featured Article Candidacy

I thank you for your comments and suggestions on how to improve the Paulins Kill article in order to make it worthy of being named a Featured Article.

So far, I think all the issues have been addressed with the sole exception of the listy Flora and fauna section. Now there are two ideas on how to tackle that, and there are possibly others. If you could weigh in on what the preferrable method to tackle this in the next day or two, I'll be able to fix it before Christmas. Also, in addition, if you could take a second look at the article and its candidacy and examine whether the edits made in response to the FAC page comments address your concerns adequeately, I'd be much obliged. —ExplorerCDT 01:59, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Al-Kindi peer review

Hi, just wanted to say thankyou for your suggestions on the peer review of al-Kindi. I have altered the article as appropriate. Your attention to the "dangling qualifiers" was particularly helpful!

I will be looking into how to include more information on his scientific and philosophical accomplishments in the lead section later this evening.

I hope you will be able to provide more direction on how you think the article can be improved.

Thanks again, Alexander.Hainy 16:33, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About edit on Incredible Hulk (drink)

Please see Wikipedia:Censorship regarding censorship. More specifically, section on what censorship is not. I would have made the same good-intentioned mistake. Please try to assume good faith in the future and check up on censorship beforehand.-Randalllin 23:19, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Please reread Wikipedia:Censorship and Incredible Hulk (drink) and see the vulgarity's use in context. Please refrain from an edit war. I will too. If you want you can contact an admin and settle this and explain the right way to you or me.-Randalllin 00:00, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

If you want you may mark that sentence as unsourced.-Randalllin 00:02, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

The sentence only needed a "reference needed" and assume good faith it could be true though unsourced.-Randalllin 04:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

After clarification on the talk page of the said article, I am here to say that yes you are in the correct. I apoligize for the trouble but not for revision of what I had believed to be unnecessary censorship. I realize now that it is agreed upon as to unsourced.-Randalllin 00:10, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

I am quite aware of the definition of an "edit war" and did not accuse you of participating in one (if you would reread my message). As I stated above, I apoligize for the trouble. I just thought that before consensus on the sentence's invalidity I would be upholding this line found in Wikipedia:Citing sources, "It's often useful to indicate specific statements that need references by placing {{fact}} ("citation needed") after the sentence, but be careful not to overuse these tags. Don't be inappropriately cautious about removing unsourced material." Please view my actions as good intentioned as they were.

[edit] Operation Show Me How

After being deleted in an AfD, Operation Show Me How now has been restored and put up for deletion a second time today. The AfD process and Deletion Review process (which I started) brought out additional references. Would you mind contacting me (email or talk page post) to discuss the article. Thanks. -- Jreferee 01:11, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NJ Constitution FA

From what I see of the article, first off it needs a little more copyediting. Maybe expand the lead, as for FAC they usually say two paragraphs. I would summarize the criticism up there, as you're supposed to give a brief overview... I looked over the FA candidacy page and it looked that some people thought the article relied too much on the constitution itself and wanted more 3rd party sources. I think all it really needs is minor corrections. I'd be sure to support it if it came up again. Dåvid Fuchs (talk / contribs) 17:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Esoltas/WikiProject Shipwrecks

It's more than a little unusual for a project in userspace to be actively engaged in assessment, particularly with as many members as this project does. It might be a good idea to move it to Wikipedia:WikiProject Shipwrecks. If you do so, I can more easily add it to the Project Directory and to the new projects section of the Community Portal. Please advise me when and if you do so, so that I can take the actions above. Thank you. John Carter 16:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Military history of Hungary

You began a very good article. I suggest to expand this article by merging the sections from "Ancient and medieval military" to "After the Cold War" from the article Military of Hungary and the whole article Honvédség into the article Military history of Hungary. I began today with this task, but then stopped as I lack enough insight and knowledge into Hungarian Military history to make this article really perfect. But if you are willing to undertake this task, you have my full support and I'm ready to help you. best regards noclador 11:54, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Carchman.jpg

Hello, Esoltas. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Carchman.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Esoltas/Images. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 19:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Maps of Telemark regions

Hi, your images of Telemark regions are totally wrong. They point to parts of Oppland county. I stumbled across the Grenland page and noticed there was something wrong with the picture, and added a comment to the discussion there. [edit] Sheerness‎ FAC

Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but as a LoCE member, I just wondered if you would be willing to have a look through the Sheerness‎ article. It is currently a Featured Article Candidate and needs a copy-edit for grammar by someone who hasn't yet seen it. Any other ways to improve the article would also be welcome. [edit] July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 23:18, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Translation help

Hi
I haven't had much time to visit Wikipedia in the last *checks dates* ... omg, one year (due to school, loads of competitions and the like). On 7 September 2006 you asked for help with the translation of military history of Hungary and finding its equivalent in the Hungarian Wikipedia. The appropriate links are now added. I don't really know a lot about Hungarian history, but I think I can still translate most of the Hungarian text to English without factual incorrectness, so I'll start working on that. Just thaught I'd let you know, and sorry for this... well, delay :) Abesto 10:37, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] removed from wikipedia:joseph effect

This material doesn't need to be there... +sj + 10:48, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia is on a slow downslide to uselessness. As more people find Wikipedia, more vandals will created, and the vandal/productive user ratio will increase. As more vandals terrorize, contributors will leave. Some contributors will become more dedicated. Some vandals will give up, but about 2% more than the editors who stayed will stay. This will slowly lead to the destruction of Wikipedia.

[edit] Namesake

The tale of Joseph, the biblical character, is wrought with twists. From his beginnings as a not-so-important favorite of his father (Nupedia days), he fell into slavery of the Ishmaelites (Brilliant prose days). He rose from slavery to become the head of Potifar's household (about the 600,000 article time). Joseph was then accused of rape and was imprisoned (John Seigenthaler, Sr. Scandal). Joseph rose from the prison to become visier of Egypt (current, Wikipedia is just about the 5th most visited website).

Here you can see the similarities.

[edit] Mathematical Representation

[edit] Full Hypothesis

In the beginning, Wikipedia was a small collection of relatively high-class articles. As more people found out about Wikipedia, more articles were created. The average quality of an article fell drastically. As the first users put forth their best effort (1) to revive the dying encyclopedia, they quickly brought it back up to a good standard. As Wikipedia's popularity grew, more vandals attacked the site. Quality soon plummeted. Some founding users left, angry that their brainchild was soon becoming a vandal's plaything. Users flocked to the site, eager to help the encyclopedia's void of contributors. The average quality of articles rose again, but just short of the previous revival's standard. More articles were created, and the quality of articles continued to decrease. Vandals, who knew that Wikipedia was in decay, struck viciously. Even more contributors left, angry and frustrated that their work was being destroyed. But the vandals' actions convinced some editors to become even more dedicated. Slowly this spiral ended up with a group of 10-20 addicts who preserved the site from about 20,000 vandal IP's. Wikipedia closed about a month later.

League of Copyeditors roll call
Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.
