The main heroine of the 2007 Columbian telenovela Zorro: La Espada y la Rosa. In the telenovela she is played by an Mexican actress Marlene Favela.

Esmeralda is a strong and free spirited woman. She won't just sit meakly while others dictate her life. And is no ones price. Which she shows in the telenovela by flighting not from only one, but from two of her own arrainged weddings.
[edit] Esmeralda's family
- Fernando Sánchez de Moncada: He is Esmeralda's supposed father. He has never loved her and often abuses her when she doesn't do things the way he wants. He is one of the villains of the telenovela and only near to the end start to realize the wrongness of his ways and starts to repent.
- Sara Kalí/Mercedes Mayorga de Aragon: She is Esmeralda's mother. She has spent Esmeralda's whole life, so far, in a prison in Los Angeles, wearing a mask so no one could recognice her. This was curtasy of her husband, Fernando Sánchez de Moncada. Her mother, Esmeralda's grand-mother, was the rightful air to the throne of Spain. Her mother fleed from the palace and was later taken in by the gypsies. After her mothers death Mercedes was raised by the gypsies, who made her their queen and named her Sara Kalí.
- Mariángel Sánchez de Moncada: Esmeralda's evil half-sister. Mariángel is incapable of truly loving anyone besides herself. She is driven by envy, greed and selfishness. She destroys everyone who comes too near to her.
- Almudena Sánchez de Moncada: She is the sister of Frenando and the aunt of Esmeralda and Mariángel. When Esmeralda was growing up Almudena was the only person, who loved and cared for her. She has always been like a mother to Esmeralda and tried to protect her. She is known for her kindness and wisdom.

- First husband: His name is not mentioned. All is known of him is that he was old and wealthy. He died in the altar, immediately after his and Esmeralda's marriage had been completed.
- Renzo the gypsy: He is mesmerised by Esmeralda at first glance. But sadly for him he has zero chances with her. Esmeralda never feels more than friendship towards him and eventually Renzo excepts it.
- Comandante Ricardo Montero de Avila: Esmeralda's second husband. Just like her first marriage this marriage was organized against Esmeralda's wishes. Montero never loves Esmeralda, only her money. Infact throughout the telenovela he is the lover of her wicked sister, Mariángel. On the course of the series Montero imprisonates Esmeralda, tortures her and eventually tries to murder her.
- Diego de la Vega alias Zorro: The true love of Esmeralda's life. It's love and passion at first sight for Esmeralda and Diego. but sadly the evil and greed plots of Mariángel and Montero get in their way and manage to keep them apart most of the 'novela. They do have a son, but Mariángel passes it as hers and Diego's after getting rid of Esmeralda. In the end they and their son and future daughter find a happily ever after.
