Escape Velocity is a band that was formed in Lynchburg, Virginia by members Michael Chagnon, Aaron Horton, and Dustin West. The band plays alternativerock music, and cites as its influences Weezer, Rufus Wainwright, Of Montreal, Ozma, Beulah, and The Beatles. The band describes its sound as "Rufus Wainwright singing Beatles melodies with the hard, but quirky edge of Weezer". Escape Velocity's songs receive frequent airplay on radio stations across Virginia. In February of 2006, Escape Velocity's "Gwynneth" was played during the MTV Documentary "Fat Camp" and in November of 2006 "1952" was played on the same network's "Made".[1]
In 2005, Escape Velocity released its first album, Chaos Theory. Its second album, Old Familiar Way, was released in 2006 followed by their first east coast tour.[2]
