Esashi, Iwate

This article is about the former city in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. There are two towns in Hokkaido Prefecture with the same name, see Esashi.
Esashi (江刺市; -shi) was a city located in Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
The city was founded on November 3, 1958.
On February 20, 2006 the city of Esashi merged with the city of Mizusawa and the municipaltites of Maesawa, Isawa and Koromogawa from Isawa District to form the new city of Oshu. The former city is now known as Esashi-ku (not like one of the wards of designated cities see this article (in Japanese) for more info).
