The butterfly was previously classified as Thecla icana Moore .^[3]

The butterfly occurs in India in the Western Himalayas from Kulu to Garhwal, Nepal, Sikkim to Bhutan and Myanmar.^[3][1] The butterfly also occurs in Tibet, Szechwan and Yunnan.^[1]
