After lengthy discussion at Talk:Alexander the Great, it was decided that, while Alexander's sexuality (and that of other Ancient Greeks) was a subject of significant commentary and a reasonable subject for categorization, the categories of the style "Category:Foo person" (particularly Category:Lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people) weren't appropriate, due to the anachronistic nature of these labels and the general scholarly lack of consensus on their applicability. (At the time of this posting, the conversation looked like this.)
The particular name of this category was chosen to avoid the stigma of the term "pederasty" as well as the euphemistic problems of the term "Greek love".
If this category ends up being a subcategory of Category:LGBT history (a subject not discussed at Talk:Alexander the Great), please do note that adding any people in this category to Category:Lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people is and likely will continue to be contentious. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 22:38, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I may have moved too quickly in creating this: though we all spoke of "ancient Greek eros", the naming conventions seem to suggest that "Eros in ancient Greece" would be preferable. --Akhilleus (talk) 23:47, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
