Ernstichthys anduzei |
Ernstichthys is a genus of catfishes (order Siluriformes) of the family Aspredinidae. It includes three species, E. anduzei, E. intonsus, and E. megistus.[1]
This genus occurs in the Amazon and Orinoco basins.[2] E. anduzei occurs in the Orinoco River basin of Venezuela. E. intonsus is known from the Napo River basin of Ecuador. E. megistus inhabits the Bobonaza and Marañon River basins of Ecuador and Peru.[1]
Ernstichthys species are small to medium sized, armored aspredinids.[2] E. anduzei grows to 3.5 centimetres (1.4 in) SL.[3] E. intonsus grows to 4.9 cm (1.9 in) SL.[4] E. megistus grows to about 6.7 cm (2.6 in) SL.[5] Members of this genus are distinguished from all other aspredinids by having two sets of paired pre-anal-fin plates and a strongly recurved pectoral spine that is much longer than first branched pectoral-fin ray.[2]
