Ernst Schulze
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ernst Schulze (1789 – 1817) was a German poet, born at Celle. He studied theology at Göttingen, but afterward devoted himself to philology. The death of Cäcilie Tychsen (1812), in whose memory his epic Cäcilia (1818) was written, clouded all of his later life. His writings are Romantic in style and mainly in allegorical form. The epic Die bezauberte Rose (1818), his last work, is a poem of classic beauty of style. Sämtliche poetische Werke were edited by Bouterwek (third edition, with biography by Marggraff, Leipzig, 1855).
