Ernst Gossner is an Austrian film director, screenwriter and producer best known for writing and directing the 2007 film South of Pico.

He grew up in Tirol and had his first stage appearance at the age of 15. Ernst (born in Brixlegg/Tirol/Austria) graduated from Business School in 1992. He then worked as Office Assistant, Steel-Mill Worker, European Bicycle Tour Guide, Radio Programme Director and studied Political Science before he turned to the stage.
Within seven years Ernst acted in dozens of plays in Austria, Germany and Italy. He also wrote and directed several stage plays and made his short film debut FLUCHT. FLUCHT was a cult internet phenomenon and the basis of Ernst’s acceptance into the Directing Program of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
Three years later he graduated from AFI (2002). His thesis film Bar Time won the Special Jury Award at the USA Film Festival and an honorable mention from the American Society of Cinematographers. The film was also presented at the festivals of Sundance, Karlovy Vary, Hofer Filmtage and many more. The film was one of only five Alumni Films on the CELEBRATING AFI DVD released by the American Film Institute.

After graduating from AFI Ernst founded his Los Angeles based company Vent Productions. His first feature South of Pico (SOP), a character driven drama co-developed with his long-time collaborator Richard Marcus swept the 11th American Black Film Festival at its world premiere October 2007. SOP won the Grand Jury Award for Best Picture and a Best Actor Award for Henry Simmons and Ernst also received the Heineken Red Star Award for Originality, Innovation and Vision. He was also honored to receive the award Best Director for a First Feature at the Pan African Film Festival 2008 in Los Angeles and the prestigious Thomas Pluch Drehbuchpreis 2008 in Austria from the Drehbuchverband (Austria's equivalent to the Writer's Guild, WGA).
Ernst currently develops several international feature films and his documentary Global Warning which he co-produces with Robert Narholz is shooting in Tirol and Italy in 2008 and will be released on a SPECIAL EDITION DVD by 2008/2009.
Ernst lived and worked in Austria, Italy, France, Germany and the U.S. and currently resides in Los Angeles and Vienna.
