Ernen is a municipality in the district of Goms in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. In 2005 Ernen incorporated the formerly independent municipalities of Ausserbinn, Mühlebach, and Steinhaus.

In 1979, Ernen was awarded the Wakker Prize for the preservation of its architectural heritage.

Ernen is famous for its classical music festival during the summer. Ernen still has three white gallows outside of the village. Even though nobody was hung in recent times, the locals still look at it as a means to frighten off burglars, thiefs and crooks. If one compares the crime rate of New York with the one in Ernen, one has to conclude that the gallows were indeed useful.
