Erna is a fictional planet on which C.S. Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy is set. The series begins in the far-future, 1,200 years after humans colonized Erna.[1]
The planet has extreme seismic activity due to its three moons (Domina, Prima, and Casca) and is host to a mysterious natural force called the Fae, a force that molds to human thoughts and emotions, as well as the fears and emotions of plants and animals. It reacts to the unconscious, subconscious, and conscious parts of human mind, giving rise to creatures much like Forbidden Planet's "monsters of the id."[2]
Prior to colonization, Erna was inhabited by Rakh, an indigenous intelligent species that evolved from a native feline predator. They became sentient shortly after humans arrived.
