[edit] Your signature
Eric, Currently, your sig is linking to an article called "Ericthebrainiac" rather than your user space (User:Ericthebrainiac). Please consider editing your signature (under "my preferences" at top right) to correct this. Formatting the link as [[User:Ericthebrainiac|]] (note the "|" pipe at the end) will result in Ericthebrainiac. Thanks! — Lomn 13:25, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, I see -- you're typing in everything manually. You can save yourself a lot of effort by typing "~~~~" instead, as it'll substitute your user name and the current time for you. Naturally, it's not mandatory, but it might be of assistance. — Lomn 17:58, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Dear Eric, On Wikipedia, everyone is able to edit everything, but that does mean everything is a good idea or even allowed. The Talk pages of articles are for discussing improvements to those articles. I have reverted your recent edit to Talk:Eric Lerner because it had nothing to do with Eric Lerner. Other than that, welcome to Wikipedia. --Art Carlson 14:56, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] August 2007
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent contribution removed content from Bajo las Reindas del Amor. Please be careful when editing pages and do not remove content from Wikipedia without a good reason, which should be specified in the edit summary. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. I'm sorry that I did but imdb.com says that the title of the telenovela was Bajo Las Riendas del Amor and I thought it was the right title of the telenovela.Ericthebrainiac 18:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I hope the above are helpful to you - have a look through some of the links, they can really help you make the most of Wikipedia. DuncanHill 00:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] I don't adopt users
I'm not much of a leader, and I'm useless at explaining how to do things to other people. But if you go to WP:ADOPT there's a whole page detailing how you can get someone to adopt you. Also, in future, try to keep questions to the person's talk page instead of their user page. I'm glad to hear you don't want to be a vandal. We have enough of those already ;) --Closedmouth 05:54, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits
Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 19:53, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your user page
Hi, Ordinarily I don’t mess with other people’s user pages. But you seemed to be stumbling around on yours. So I changed it to what I thought you intended. I hope I was right.
The mistake you seemed to be making was that you enclosed links in double curly brackets {{}} instead of double square brackets [[]]. Double curly brackets cause the transclusion of the referenced page. So for example, whenever you wrote {{User:Ericthebrainiac|…}} on your user page, the page transcluded itself.
While I have got your attention, let me suggest that you put very few links on your user page and on the pages you write. Use links only when you think a reader might want to look up another page. So for example when I wrote the preceding paragraph, I though that you might want to look up the article on “Transclusion”; so I put a link on it. Take a look at WP:MOS-L#Overlinking and underlinking: what's the best ratio? for advice on overlinking. --teb728 00:25, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Permission to edit things
While it's very sweet of you to offer permission to edit articles you create, it's already implied that when you create articles in Wikipedia, you release the content so that anyone can edit it. We don't need express permission. I figured you might want to know so you know you don't have to ask anyone for permission to edit things in the future. Welcome to Wikipedia! [edit] The difference between the NBC soap opera Passions and my original soap opera Secret Obesession

[edit] Ciudad Paraiso
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ciudad Paraiso, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Cxbrx 07:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your soap opera and the Reference Desk
We're glad you find value in the Reference Desk, and we hope that you find success with your soap operas, but the two need to stop overlapping. Specifically, questions like this one are quite unsuited to the desk, and we've opted to remove them. That said, it's much better all around that you understand why they're unsuitable (they're posing questions which are answerable only by you, and answerable however you like) and simply cease posting them. Remember, in fiction (and particularly in soap operas!), you can make whatever choices you like, be it cities, streets, illnesses, actors, or whatever, because it's your story! Best of luck with your writing. — Lomn 16:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RD
Eric, any possibility you could stop asking really dumb questions on the RD? It may be amusing you, but I'm not sure anyone else is enjoying it. Your most recent question is clearly, self-evidently, palpably ridiculous. The RD does not exist for your amusement. Abuse it and you will sooner or later lose the right to use it. --Tagishsimon (talk) 23:59, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- I have deleted these questions from the RD. Manning (talk) 00:10, 30 November 2007 (UTC) (Administrator)
- Once again, question removed from the Reference Desk. If you have a factual question, then by all means ask it, but the RD is not suitable for quizzes. For example:
- Good: Who sings Amor Comprado's theme song "Tal Vez"?
- Bad: If I say that Amor Comprado's theme song "Tal Vez" is performed by Ricky Martin, who do you say performs the song? Whoever you say sings Amor Comprado's theme song "Tal Vez" is alright by me.[1]
- It may be that you're trying to accomplish the good example, but posting the bad suggests that you're either playing some sort of word-association game or looking to edit articles with the first piece of unsupported guesswork that's given as a response. As noted by Tagishsimon above, abuse of the RD may lead to the loss of your right to use it. — Lomn 14:05, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Grupo Ashta
A tag has been placed on Grupo Ashta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Amor Comprado theme song
I've removed the Amor Comprado theme song section as unreferenced, and request that it not be re-added without one. While I recognize that other portions of the article are also unreferenced, I'm particularly concerned by the way that you've posted varying songs and artists as the theme, all unreferenced, in addition to asking if some were correct at the Reference Desk. In short, barring a reference, I think the section has consisted solely of guesswork, which isn't suitable. — Lomn 19:55, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] No more fictional soap opera stuff
Eric, no more posting about your fictional soap opera. It is not appropriate for Wikipedia. Should this instruction be ignored, the only remaining alternative is a topic ban enforceable by blocking. This has been patiently explained several times and there's no possible further excuse for you to fail to understand. — Lomn 01:41, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] March 2008
Eric, several times on your talk page people have requested that you stop adding frivolous, fictional questions to the Reference Desk that only waste others' time. Others have provided many links to pages that inform what qualifies for inclusion in Wikipedia and what is considered appropriate for deletion. Yet, you continue to pursue a course of action that is not appropriate for Wikipedia. Please understand that such edits are considered Vandalism. The community has given you the benefit of the doubt multiple times but this edit of yours makes it clear that you are making bad-faith edits. You are not attempting to add legitimate value to Wikipedia, but instead making edits that you know are misleading. You do make some helpful edits, but that does not validate the intentional bad-faith edits that you also make. Please cease from making non-constructive edits. Those edits are vandalism. Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. SWAdair | Talk 06:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries
Hi Eric,
I've noticed you've got a particular method of edit summaries, generally "*/pagename/*". I wanted to let you know that they're entirely unnecessary if you don't want to be typing that out all the time. What you've probably seen are the autogenerated summaries of the form "/*text here*/" (note the reversal of * and /), which create a link to the relevant subsection of the page -- for instance, this edit includes a summary of "/*Edit summaries*/" that results in a link to User talk:Ericthebrainiac#Edit summaries. These functional ones are always autogenerated for you, which allows you to then append a summary describing what the edit is (rather than where the edit is) -- again in this case, a summary of "new section" is appended. Hope this helps explain that rather arcane notation you've been painstakingly emulating. — Lomn 21:14, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hoaxes
Please do not create hoaxes. Cease and desist from introducing misinformation into Wikipedia if you are attempting to test our ability to detect and remove it. This has been done before, with universally negative results. Hoaxes are marked for deletion shortly after they are created. Kindly — do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method is to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia, and then to check to see how long they have been in place and, if possible, correct them. Feel free to take a look at the five pillars of Wikipedia policy to learn more about this project and how you can make a positive impact. Thanks, Stifle (talk) 08:54, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know, adding {{sprotected}} or {{protected}} to a page is only a means for an admin to notify users that a page is protected. This does not actually confer protection to the article. Please remember to mark your edits as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. [edit] Minor edits
Apart from your intriguing edit summaries (I assume that you started doing that whe you saw an autogenerated one when you edited a section somewhere), I noticed that you mark most of your edits when minor. This generally isn't considered good etiquette, since minor edits often get overlooked by someone who's going through histories; it is a generally accepted standard that minor edits are things that only change grammer/punctuation or rearrange text, not adding it or removing it (with the possible exception of clear vandalism). I've just undone your edit to Magneto (band). To repeat what Stifle told you on May 14th, just adding the template does not protect the page. If you need help protecting a page, please contact an admin or request it.
I also noticed that you left a message on a user page - User:Fast - rather than a talk page. Messages should really go on the user's talk page.
I've also reverted another of your edits from a while ago [2] where your text was:
If this is a translation of the first sentence of the synopsis at [3] then I would translate it as:

[edit] Reply
Depends mate. On Wikipedia we go by a standard of Notability if the story is not notable then no you are not allowed to mention them in the main space in any articles. It is only really notable if it has been published by a widely known publisher, has sold a lot of copies and has been mentioned by several high profile sources or reliable sources in general. Even then because you wrote the story you are not allowed to make or edit that article because of Conflict of Interest and Point of view issues. But if you are willing to let some one else write the article then you should be fine. But if you mean like to talk to other people about it. Yeah that is fine. Just do not talk often here as this is not a blog. Conversations are allowed..but it is highly suggested that if you have a huge conversation that you go to email or AIM. I hope I could help you out mate. If you more questions on this I am willing to answer them. Rgoodermote 18:00, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- To pull out the key point, Eric, I'll quote from the above:
- no you are not allowed to mention them in the main space in any articles
- It's unpublished non-notable trivia, and there is no appropriate place on Wikipedia for it. — Lomn 19:05, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I've reintroduced discussion over your edits and have explained why here: Wikipedia:Administrators_noticeboard/Incidents#Ericthebrainiac. --Ouzo (talk) 14:09, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Blocked
I've blocked you for one week, for engaging in the same problematic behaviors you've been talked to about before. Specifically, this behavior includes things like misusing talk pages to talk about your own work, rather than discussing how to improve the article. Please take some time to learn what Wikipedia is about if you're going to continue editing here. Friday (talk) 14:31, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Specifically: What Wikipedia is not. Even more specifically: What Wikipedia is not: a publisher of original thought. --Ouzo (talk) 14:46, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Not Caring What Anybody Says about "My Beloved Girlfriend"
I have never gave a (double expletive) about what anyone says just as long as I know that what happens on my story is what I write about on Wikipedia. Ericthebrainiac (talk) 22:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- No. You may not write about your stories on Wikipedia. Doing so will result in further blocks and possibly a permanent ban. If you need an outlet to write about your stories, why not try blogger.com? — Lomn 17:27, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Seeing Vickie Guerrero Fired
I would like to see Vickie Guerrero fired by Mr. McMahon because I think that she has been abusing her role as General Manager of WWE SmackDown. Ericthebrainiac (talk) 21:57, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
And I would LOVE to see Teddy Long back as General Manager of SmackDown. Ericthebrainiac (talk) 21:59, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the Blogger.com suggestion
Thanks x 1,000,000 for the Blogger.com suggestion. Ericthebrainiac (talk) 23:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't know why I didn't think of that before. Ericthebrainiac (talk) 23:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
