[edit] Potterhill
Thanks for sorting out my Potterhill station mess. It was my first wiki edit as you may have guessed.
- No problem, welcome to Wikipedia. It was a good first edit in that pictures of Scottish railway stations (both closed and open) are sorely needed so its always a pleasure to see one. Need to point out though that the scan of Potterhill from "Ayrshire & Renfrewshire's Lost Railways" is against Wiki copyright rules and will probably be removed eventually.
- Nevertheless, happy editing. :) --Dreamer84 17:58, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Potterhillwithtrack.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Potterhillwithtrack.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Commercial use of Image:Meikleriggstoglenfielddepot.jpg
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Meikleriggstoglenfielddepot.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Meikleriggstoglenfielddepot.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.
If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.
If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.
If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Meikleriggstoglenfielddepotgoogle.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Meikleriggstoglenfielddepotgoogle.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VegitaU 21:50, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Google Maps
I sure would like to know where I can find all the Google Maps pictures you mentioned on Wikipedia. -- VegitaU 21:16, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
You might want to start with the google maps page on Wikipedia :-)) There are others too. What on (google) earth makes you believe it is a breach of copyright ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Maps
- Try signing your posts to begin with. Second of all, of course the article on Google Maps is going to have Google Maps images on there. Google Maps images are kind of required to illustrate…Google Maps. I'm talking about these copyrighted images used for other purposes. There is no reason why you would need a satellite shot of a town or whatever that cannot be either freely found through TerraServer-USA or a ground photo or a free map shot. That's why these images have been tagged and deleted. Stop uploading copyrighted images without knowing the non-free content criteria. Happy editing! -- VegitaU 16:45, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
If the google maps Wikipedia page isn't breaking copyright, this isn't either. The page didn't have to use a google map. If you were paying attention you would know that image is from the UK (a country in Europe) so TerraServer-USA is useless. It is absolutely required that it is a satellite or similar image because it's illustrating surface features that can only be seen from the air and I don't have a plane or acess to aerial images of the area.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_images_censored_by_Google_Maps
--Eric144 19:03, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Wow. I guess when you make a point, you ignore all contradictory aspects. I took a look at the article and the picture. There's absolutely nothing on the picture that ties to an article about rail lines. The image in the infobox above it makes the point clear, but your image adds absolutely nothing. Actually, it looks like it went on an article about a town. You really have no ground to stand on here. You already have a history of uploading images in violation of copyright rules. This is just another one that needs to be deleted. Owning image satellites has nothing to do with this argument. You can find a historical photo of the rail line or go to the site and snap a photo yourself. A lack of effort or laziness or inability on your part doesn't warrant the use of copyright images to replace a free alternative. Google Maps images are used on the Google Maps article because it's used to illustrate Google Maps…to show the reader what Google Maps is. There's no free equivalent to Google Maps to show what Google Maps is. Obviously, the writers have to include a Google Maps screenshot. For historical images, obviously you can't go back in time to recreate them freely. Writers have to use the copyrighted images in a proper manner. But you can't use a copyrighted image to show where a railroad used to travel. Trust me, that dog won't hunt. -- VegitaU 22:53, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
If you think I am going to get drawn into a useless argument wih some colonial military savage you are very much mistaken. Now get lost.

Anyway it looks like I got exactly the right picture to describe you .

[edit] September 2007
This is your only warning.
The next time you create an inappropriate page, such as :Image:Real-moron.jpg, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Don't upload replaceable copyrighted or unsourced images. Happy editing! VegitaU 02:11, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Hey Yank moron dude, I took the picture myself. Looks like I'm the one with the brain here. You still think you're smart being turned over with a simple trick like that ? Did I remember to call you a moron ? Did you bother to check what the picture was ? Was the picture ever part of any wikipedia page ? No, it was nosy, twisted little bureaucratic moron entrapment.
:Image:Real-moron.jpg
Even the original picture was no less appropriate than your pathetic moronic insults. Don't forget that you are a moron and I have the transcript of your moronic nonsense here.
Get lost moran !!

[edit] Paisley and Barrhead District Railway
Thanks for tidying up and sorting out my text. I have re-arranged the references so they match the order in the text. I assume you were going to do that in the future revision you referred to.

Fine, here is a google satellite image that might help you with the route map template.

- Mostly complete now. User:Pyrotec has also been working on this. I regularly travelled from Newton Mearns area to Renfrew through Barrhead and past Dykebar Hospital during the early part of 2006, crossing the route of the line several times - including close to the junction with the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway. --Stewart (talk) 21:56, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Good work. I live close to Dykebar hospital and was brought up in the area which is my interest (as opposed to the railway angle). My house is only about 100 or so yards from the route of the line at Dobbie's garden centre which I'm sure you have seen many times . It was actually two friends of mine who partly dismantled Dykebar station at Guy Fawkes circa 1970. That's why I know. Two of us searched for it a few weeks ago and I think we found some masonry remains.
If you look at my PBDR page I have GH Robin's fantastic photographs on display having received permission from the Mitchell Library . I don't want to step on any more Wikipedia copyright mines so I'll let people link to my site from the Wikipedia page. The best photo is of a railway enthusiast excursion to mark the closing of the railway. Ironically the only passenger train to actually run on the line.
cheers
Eric

[edit] return character PBDR
Awesomely trivial comment coming up - you are right that one return is normal but that section is the only one that doesn't have a gap between itself and the next as you can see. It looks wrong to me.
--Eric144 11:16, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- There's not meant to be a gap between the first section and the table of contents: its the same on every Wikipedia article. Try removing the table of contents (by inserting __NOTOC__) and you'll see its the same gap as the rest of the page. --Dreamer84 11:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
You're right.
thanks

[edit] P&BDR stations
Thanks for all your help. Wikipedia can be a real fankle.
There was a discussion on the PBDR and it was agreed that we thought Foxbar station never existed despite it being mentioned on railscot. Neither Wham nor Gammel mention it. I asked on a local forum and no one had heard of it despite knowing about Glenfield and Stanely. I think it has been confused with Stanely which is in the Foxbar housing scheme. The discussion is at the bottom of this page.

- You are right, I was having a look at RAILSCOT and Jowett. Never usually trust RAILSCOT without Jowett, although Jowett does have its own errors. I do now remember the discussion, and agree that Foxbar should not be there. I propose to put a redirect on Foxbar to Stanely. --Stewart (talk) 22:35, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- As you have now found, I have put the basic stub articles for all the stations all the way from Paisley St James / Arkleston Junction to Lyoncross. I look forward to seeing your excellent work expanding these. --Stewart (talk) 22:56, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:1923paisleyEastmap.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:1923paisleyEastmap.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:06, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dykebarstation.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dykebarstation.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Additionally, if you continue uploading bad images, you may be blocked from uploading. STBotI (talk) 16:53, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Seedhillbridge.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Seedhillbridge.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:26, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Dykebarstation.jpg
Can you explain [5]? It looks like you might have been trying to falsify the licensing information in response to my tagging, by changing it to ta PD license and changing the date. Dmcdevit·t 19:07, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I did, because I couldn't be bothered with the extended geekiness to investigate the rules about the size of the picture particularly because there is no mention of what a fair size picture would be. I have explicit permission to put that photo on my website and wikipedia from the copyright holder. Even if I hadn't, the photographer died a lo...ng time ago, he doesn't care and it isn't worth any money. I assumed you were some kind of robot thing and no one would notice, not a human being. My mistake.
I've re uploaded the picture at 256 x157.
