[edit] All About Erik (AAE)

Hello there! I'm Erik Jensen, a 21-year-old (as of August 7; I was born the same day of the year as Jimbo Wales himself) white male editing from California. I do both heavy page-editing and talk-page-commenting in general, but I'm certainly not the type to spend all day making minor edits to a lot of pages; I often only allow myself a few hours on the Internet in the morning and at night. My typical editing style is to pre-write my big edits on a word document and post it onto this site, and let others correct spelling and/or accuracy mistakes I might make. It seems that I reside only on Wiki-style environments on the Internet; aside from the above sites listed and occasional comments from me at a Golden Sun forum, you will not find me anywhere else on the Internet, and I am not generally reachable by email.

As a person, I'll admit that I'm quite different from a lot of people you'd see on the Internet. I'm totally a Type-B personality; I'm just consistently relaxed, collected, non-aggressive and non-confrontational, and also quite lazy and prone to procrastination in real life. On any Wiki-based project, you have my word that I'll never use a cross word against someone in the personal attack sense, such as calling someone dumb, let alone calling someone a dumbshit. And I think I can give you my word that I always look for ways to collaborate with others I might be disagreeing with. I doubt you'll ever see me outright angry over how an article's content should be structured or something like that, because all the reasons I can imagine getting angry over something like that would have to include some elements of my asserting a level of ownership over the article, which violates Wikipedia policy. (I haven't actually read most of Wikipedia's policy pages thoroughly through, but I've been around Wikipedia for years and seem to know it from firsthand experience as well as looking at other policymonger users.)

I think I could theoretically deal with an abusive user on my talk page for literal years, and only respond civilly and sensibly throughout. This would actually be a tactic on my part; people who are aggressive and abrasive tend to look silly in the eyes of many and usually don't become so popular, so I just gotta keep on being the model of easiness-to-work-with to get my enemies into their downfalls. ^_^ This is not to say I try to be overly friendly either... The point is that I don't think you should ever assume bad faith on my part whenever I'm doing stuff at any Wiki. If you see me in any instance where I'm violating any of what I said above, I'd appreciate it if you notified me on my talk page.

That said, there are things that cause me to feel bitter towards whoever might be causing them. When the subject's about something that's supposed to be entertaining, like a Nintendo videogame, I don't like seeing pompous comments that are intentionally inflammatory to certain fans, on or offwiki, especially when those types of comments are posted just for that purpose. And I don't like similarly inflammatory rants that make everything about some particular thing sound awful when it itsn't. But these aren't actually pet peeves of mine - looking at people's pet peeves tend to make me edgy too - so it's not like I'll go out of my way to be be overly unreasonable.

Alright, well, ultimately I hope we can edit harmoniously. Erik Jensen (Appreciate|Laugh At)

[edit] Past and Current Activities

In the past, I did a lot of work filling up pages on individual Pokémon species. When a lot of users complained about the overuse of cruft to fill up the pages, like User:A Man In Black, I was one of the main proponents of the merge plan for the species that's being implemented now as 25 descriptive list pages covering 20 Pokémon each. (Too bad they're now cutting out more content than I was hoping: [1])

Anyways, the articles I've devoted the most time to on Wikipedia are the ones about Nintendo's small-scale but strongly-appreciated Golden Sun series of games. This being my favorite game series, I've done just loads of rewriting and imagework on the following pages:

  • Golden Sun: Took real effort to get this to Good Article status.
  • Golden Sun: The Lost Age: It will take a lot more real effort to give this page similar honors.
  • Characters of Golden Sun: Now it's at its best shape yet, and will need the sourcing implemented.
  • Weyard: The page on the game's fictional world... I've revamped it to match the world article of a Final Fantasy game.

Here are some other pages I made major edits to at some time or another:

It seems, however, that nowadays I don't do as much editing on Wikipedia as I used to... Most of my editing time is spent on the Golden Sun wikia and SmashWiki.

MY FAVORITE ALLCAPS:

  • Exhibit A: Taken together with this, this gets my preliminary vote for the single greatest two-way interaction in the history of mankind. This came out of a dispute about inserting content into Pokemon pages.
  • Exhibit B: After this enraged IP carved the article on Charizard and its talk page and was reverted by A Man In Black, his response prompted AMIB to christen him the charming nickname "Skeletor".
  • Exhibit C: This new user had an entertaining approach to conveying to AMIB that he had more "rights" to Mario articles than AMIB does, but AMIB recognized the user's situation and "helped out".
  • Exhibit D: Now HERE's how you reprimand an admin for deleting your article: declare you'll "sew" him for ten tredecillion dollars.
  • Exhibit E: Flamboyant rants like this are quite fitting of users who name themselves "Disgruntled". I dunno about talk page posts like this, though...

I'll concede that I did get a couple awards over my years at the site. The first was for rewriting an article that would later on be merged practically out of existence because of notability and sourcing issues; the second was a free barnstar handed out to me and a couple dozen other WP:POKE members by a user attempting to get out of his eventual ban. Hey, it's some recognition for my efforts!
