[edit] Plot

In the future, Earth has no oxygen in its atmosphere. Humans live in cities built underground and breathe processed air. An underground train route between Los Angeles and Tokyo has been built for a luxury liner train.[1] During the journey from Los Angeles to Tokyo, a stowaway puts the train and its passengers at risk.[2]

[edit] Project history

In 1990, director Roland Emmerich came to Hollywood with the original Isobar script, intending to direct a $90 million film starring Sylvester Stallone.[3] Kim Basinger was to co-star alongside Stallone, and Joel Silver was a producer at the time. Emmerich had requested for Dean Devlin (Stargate, Independence Day) to rewrite his script. However, Carolco Pictures wanted Emmerich to use the draft written by another screenwriter, Jim Uhls (Fight Club). Not willing to agree, Emmerich quit the picture.[1][4] The project was lost when Carolco Pictures went bankrupt. Peter Winther originally served as Emmerich's assistant in 1990. Sixteen years later, Winther was attached to direct the film in 2006.[5]

[edit] Filming

In a September 2006 interview, writer and producer Dean Devlin said that Isobar would begin filming on January-February 2007.[6]
