[edit] Pronunciation

I've heard his name pronounced in these ways.

Chŏvĕz (Anglicized, most common)

Shŭvĕz (French, A's broadcast)

Chŏvās (Latin, my preference)

I prefer it be pronounced either the Latin way or the Anglicized way. The French way doesn't seem proper.

It's nice to hear what you prefer, but in this case that's not an issue. What matters is how Chavez himself pronounces his name. I know he gave a long-winded answer on ESPN, but I can't remember what he finally said the correct pronunciation was. Since the A's broadcasters are with the team everyday, for the time being we should keep the name as they say it, until someone can find the pronunciation out of Chavez's mouth. 49giantsharks 23:58, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
