Can someone who knows British geography please clarify and perhaps link to the places of birth and death. There are many Bartons in England, and I don't want to introduce erroneous information. Do they mean Barton on Irwell in Salford? Rorybowman 21:30, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yes - I have amended the spelling and added a link to Barton-upon-Irwell. Ian Dunster (talk) 09:31, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I'll just translate the whole lot, and you can add the info as you see fit. =]
Eric Anthony Sykes, born Eric Anthony Schwabe the 5 of February 1883 in Barton-on-Irwell, Great Britain, died 12 May 1945 in Bexhill-on-Sea. Syke was one of the two exemplary figures withing the Special Operation Executive (SOE), the predecessor to the British Special Air Service (SAS). Sykes worked in Shanhai from 1907 to 1940, first in the limited liability company(not sure about this) Reiss & Co up to 1923, and then for China & Japan Trading Co up to 1928. During this time he became a main marketing agent(i'm clueless on this one... it means a person who has the sole right to market a product over a large region) in China for the weapon-manufacturers Remington and Colt. In 1929 he moved on to S.J. David & Co, where he worked until his departure from China. 1919 he met William Ewart Fairbairn, 1:st criminal inspector(maybe "detective" or something, i'm clueless here as well... it's a title within the police hierarchy), in Shanghai Municipal Police, SMP. 1926 he joined SMP as an officer in the reserve. 1937 he worked part-time for S.J. David & Co, and the rest of the time for SMP, where he was the head of the sniper unit. Soon he and Fairbarn were recruited to the British intelligence service, Secret Intelligence Service, SIS. In July 1939 Sykes became an instructor with the rank of captain at SIS training-camps (Special Training Centre, STC) in Lochailort in Scottland.
That's the best i could do without really digging in to it. ---Marcus- 00:24, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
