Erika Thormahlen, born September 3, 1980, in Ashland, Oregon began modeling at the age of 10. She attended Alameda High School in Alameda, California, and was supposed to graduate in 1998 but instead opted for a GED. As a high school student, she modeled for Mervyns print ads and briefly dated Simon Rex,[citation needed] also a former student of Alameda High School.
While studying for her degree in English and creative writing at UCLA she was cast in the NBC Saturday morning program Just Deal as Ashley Gordon. The show ran for 39 episodes. She has also appeared on Angel—in the episode "A New World"—and starred in the short film "Smile for the Camera".
Erika also created, wrote and produced a TV pilot for kids focusing on food and nutrition called, What's Cooking with Waffles and Mousemeat. The puppet show also features a human cast including Simon Helberg, Jason Ritter and a guest interview with Maroon 5. The show premiered at the 2006 New York Television Festival and was a TV Guide "Hot Pick".[citation needed]
