Eric Simms (naturalist)

Eric Simms was a talented British amateur naturalist, writer and broadcaster, as well as a former Bomber Command pilot

He was a prolific writer of over twenty books and numerous articles. He is particularly noted for his books in the Collins New Naturalist series, having written four - Woodland Birds in 1971, British Thrushes in 1978, British Warblers in 1985 and British Larks, Pipits & Wagtails in 1992.

He was a passionate believer in bringing natural history to a wider audience, and was a resident naturalist at the BBC. He is credited with starting the Countryside radio programme in 1952, He has made over 7,000 radio and TV broadcasts
