Eric Harland is a 28-year old jazz drummer from Houston, Texas, and has played or recorded with several of the M-Base related artists, including Greg Osby, Geri Allen, Jason Moran and Ravi Coltrane. He has also done gigs with such jazz luminaries as McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland, and Charles Lloyd, the latter with which he is currently engaged in a collaboration, along with tabla player Zakir Hussain, in a trio known as Sangam. Eric Harland has also performed in the Dave Holland Sextet and is a member of the SFJAZZ Collective. In Down Beat's 65th Annual Readers Poll, he was included in the short list of top drummers, in the company of masters like Roy Haynes and the late Elvin Jones. His nickname is Hercules.

His style is described as dynamic, with an ability to play straightahead and free with equal aplomb, and to move from delicate passages to ferociously bombastic soloing.

"Eric Harland is an upcoming 28-year old jazz drummer from Texas who is a freaking genius and a wunderkind. I saw him last night playing with well-known saxophonist Charles Lloyd and tabla player Zakir Hussain in their trio known as Sangam and he completely brought the roof down. He is a rhythmic phenomenon unto himself and seems to ooze rhythm from every pore of his being into his drum kit and throughout the atmosphere.

Somebody please write the entry for this man."
