Eric Hamber Secondary School is a large public secondary school located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It offers a variety of advanced classes and is notable for its many wins in the field of sports.
The school is named after Eric Hamber, former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.
The school colours, maroon and light blue, were the colours used by Eric Hamber's race horses.

[edit] Courses
Eric Hamber offers a wide variety of Fine Art Courses. All students who enroll in grade 8 at Eric Hamber will take several core courses. They must all take a combination that includes two of Choir, Art, Band, and or Drama. These courses are all half-year courses, similar to semesters. The only exemption from these courses is to take an "Enriched" band program which runs all year long.
Home Economics is offered and is required. It is offered as a trimester, where you are cooking and sewing for 2/3's of the year and doing Woodwork and Metalwork for the other 1/3rd. This exposure to several different courses allows students to choose what kind of courses they would like to enroll in next year.

Graduation requirements for Eric Hamber are the same through out the province. It includes:
English 10,11,12 Math 10,and 11 or 12 Science 10,11
- Students are allowed the options of which science they choose to study.
Physical Education 10 Planning 10
- A relatively new course that the government deemed necessary to introduce students to the world after high school.
Socials 11 Fine Art or Applied Skill 10,11, or 12 28 Elective courses credits
- All courses are worth 4 credits with the exception of half year courses that are backed with Planning 10
At least 16 credits must be at the grade 12 level, including English 12.

Eric Hamber offers different kinds of English in grades 9 and 11. For those students who choose to challenge themselves there is a special program for themselves (see below). Eric Hamber offers Creative Writing for those students who wish to slightly vary from the traditional English curriculum and place more focus on writing. When students enter grade 12, there are many more options available to them.
Students MUST take one of the following to graduate: English 12 English 12 World Literature AP English 12 Communications 12
- Problems with Communications 12 include that it does not qualify as an English 12 credit to many post secondary institutions.
Elective English courses for those who are stronger in English or who wish to strengthen themselves include the following. English Literature 12 Writing 12
These courses DO NOT qualify as English 12 Credits.
- Provincial exams are administered in grades 10 and 12. The English 12 provincial is the only provincial required to be written by students.

All students must take Science up to the grade 11 level to graduate. Junior science is nonnegotiable for students, however when in grade 11, they may choose to take only one grade 11 science. Eric Hamber offers all the general science courses as well as AP in both Chemistry and Physics. These courses include: Biology 11 Biology 12
- Only prerequisite is Science 10
Chemistry 11 Chemistry 11E
- The first year of the AP Chemistry Program
Chemistry 12 Chemistry 12 AP
- The final year of the AP Chemistry Program[3].
Physics 11 Physics 11E
- The first year of the AP Physics Program.
Physics 12 Physics 12 AP
- The final year of the AP Physics Program[4].
Enviro science 12 AP
- This is the only AP course at Eric Hamber that is only offered for a single year. This is due to the fact that a year of Chemistry or Biology is required.
Alternatives to the more academic sciences include Earth Science 11.
- Provincial exams are administered in grade 10.
Grade 12 provincials are optional.

Eric Hamber offers a flexible math program to cater to all the students. From grade 8 to 12, Essentials of Math is offered. As the name suggests, this course only teaches the "essentials" of the course. In grade 10, a provincial exam is administered, students in the Essentials program have a different exam than the rest of the grade. Math at Eric Hamber is one of either the weak spots in students or the major strengths. To encourage more students to stay in the main stream math course, after school help is available everyday in either the Skills Center or in Room 302.
There main stream math courses offered include,
Math 8, Math 9, Principals of Math 10, Principals of Math 11, Principals of Math 12, Calculus
- Many students elect to take regular Calculus instead of AP Calculus.
In addition to the Essentials program, Eric Hamber offers a slower,yet still main stream program. Starting in grade 10, those who elect to take the slower paced course, Math 10A, must carry on next year to take Math 11X. These courses cover Principals of Math 10, and most of Principals of Math 11. The year after completion of Math 11X, the students are to take Math 11. This series allows students to achieve to their highest potential in math, while still obtaining graduation requirements.
For those who choose to challenge themselves, Calculus 12, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC[5] are offered.
Provincial exams are administered in grades 10 and 12. Only the grade 10 provincial is required.
Eric Hamber also offers Information Technology courses. The programming languages taught are Python and C++.

Social Studies is very similar to the Science program offered at Eric Hamber. Junior Social Studies is required for all students. At the grade 12 level there is a branch off of courses. All of which are electives. They include:

Eric Hamber offers a very in depth Applied Skills department. These courses include:

Eric Hamber also offerd a diverse Tech Studies Department. Courses include:

- All courses numbered 11 or 12 require the previous year as a prerequisite.

Eric Hamber offers many different Fine Arts Courses. The courses offered include: Visual Art Foundations from grades 10 to 12. Visual Art 2D, Printmaking from grades 10 to 12. Studio Arts is also offered from grades 10 to 12. Studio Arts, Ceramics and Sculpture is offered from grades 10 to 12. The only courses in this stream that requires a prerequisite are the ones at the grade 12 level. This allows students who opted not to take these courses in grade 10 to take the senior course.
Other courses offered include: Photography 10, 11, 12 Digital Video Production 10, 11, 12 Both these courses require the previous grade as a prerequisite.
Dance is also a Fine Arts course offered at Eric Hamber. In past years it has become increasingly popular.

- Dance 12 requires Dance 11.

While Eric Hamber doesn't offer a very diverse language department, it does offer slightly more than the general school. Eric Hamber offers French, Japaneses, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Provincials are administered in grade 12, however; they are optional.

Beginning Concert Band 8 Junior Concert Band 9 Intermediate Concert Band 10 Senior Concert Band 11 and 12
- Senior Concert Band is a X block class, starting at 7:30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Jazz Band 10,11,12 is offered as an X block class, on Tuesday and Thursdays at 7:30 and at lunch on Wednesdays. It is required that jazz band members take Concert Band as well, resulting in morning class every day of the school week.

- Although Strings 9 and 10 use the same name, they are different courses
Senior Strings 11 and 12
- Senior Strings Courses and Junior Strings 10 are all X block classes that start at 7:30 am. The dates vary from year to year. The instructor Mr. David Cho is flexible and allows the students to choose if they want to have rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday or on Tuesday and Thursday. However, due to a lack of days in the school week, all strings students have a rehearsal at Lunch on Thursdays.

- This is an off time table course that starts at 7:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Auditions are required for placement in the course.

Physical Education up to grade 10 is required. Also up to grade 10, the courses are separated by Boys and Girls. In grade 11 there are several more options: Recreation 11/12 Physical Eduation 11/12 Fitness 11/12
- Fitness is an X block class that is offered on Day 2's at 7:15 am.

For grades 8 and 9, Hamber offers a challenge program in four subjects examined provincially - English, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. These challenge courses allow students to complete the material for grades 8 through 10 and more within two years. This program has allowed many students to graduate secondary school early. There are also French advanced programs for grades 8 to 10. For grades 11 through 12, Hamber has a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses recognised throughout North America.
