In 2004, Epstein challenged State Senator Jeffrey Piccola for Pennsylvania's 15th senatorial district.

In 2005, after members of the state legislature voted themselves a pay raise during a midnight session, Epstein created RockTheCapitol, a nonprofit, nonpartisan voter education organization.
