Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is a museum devoted to the art contained in picture books and especially children's books. It is a member of Museums10 and is adjacent to the campus of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.

The museum was founded by the well-known children's book author and illustrator Eric Carle (author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar) and his wife Barbara. Fundraising began in 1995, and the museum opened to the public in November of 2002.

The museum includes a library of picture books, an auditorium used for performances for children and adults, and a hands-on studio component as well as a traditional exhibition space and collection. Its educational program is devoted to visual literacy.
