Thanks for cleaning up this article. I see you also weighed in on the Afd, that's great. I seriously doubt the article is in much danger of being deleted now. Friday (talk) 05:24, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Got your message - nice work expanding that one. For future reference, if you're interested, there's a list of stub types at WP:WSS/ST which is handy to know about if you end up labelling many stubs. It's also a good way to find topical stubs that need expanding. Even if you just use the {{stub}} template on an article, it'll get sorted pretty quickly by one of us stub-sorters, so don't worry about stub types if you don't want to. At any rate, welcome to Wikipedia! GTBacchus 00:12, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Big Heavy Stuff
Nice work creating this! It is great to finally have an article for them, it's been hovering near the top of my 'to-do' list for a long time. :) I'm not sure where you live, but if it's in Australia you might like to check out some of these links: The Australia Wikiportal, Australian Wikipedians' Notice Board, Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight, New Australian Articles and Australian stub articles. User:Chuq also works on quite a few Aus music articles, so feel free to jump into his to-do list here. And finally, if you live in Melbourne, the Wikipedia:WikiProject Melbourne could be useful, and of course there are similar ones for the other cities. cheers. pfctdayelise 16:33, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- Not trying to steal the spotlight, but I threw up the Big Heavy Stuff page - I want to thank ERcheck for cleaning it up though! That, and apologise for not doing a very thorough job, I figured no one would even notice and that I could get back to edit it later on when I have a little more time :)--Evervans 16:10, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Question on Requesting Topics/Categories
In regards to your question, I wasn't overly familiar with this off the top of my head. But, I looked at the page in question, and it does look like you'd be OK to just go to Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Sports and add appropriate sections. These aren't really "Categories" in the sense of Wikipedia:Categories, so they're not as tricky to deal with. Hope this helps! Friday (talk) 17:56, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Speedy tags
ERcheck, you have been marking many articles for speedy-deletion. Quite a few of those do not qualify for speedy deletion under WP:CSD. Please familiarize yourself with this policy so that admins can rely on your input more effectively. Thank you! Owen× ☎ 02:58, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- The following don't seem to fall under any of the CSD categories:
- Star and stripe
- Arborphiliac (which you marked as db-attack. why? the content was: "or Arbourphiliac, it is one who is sexually aroused by trees.")
- Pi Approximation
- The last one has already been deleted, but the admin who deleted it also agrees the Speedy tag may not have been appropriate. Owen× ☎ 03:22, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
-
- Yes, I noticed you fixed Star and stripe correctly; thank you! As for CSD:A3, it refers to articles where the whole content is just a repeat or rephrase of the title. So, if the whole article only contained the text "an approximation of Pi", you'd be right to tag it. But since that article contained real information not contained in the title (as well as two external links!), it certainly does not qualify for db-a3. It is, however, a candidate for transwiki to Wikisource, which is usually done through an AfD. Personally, I always try to turn these kinds of articles into redirects. This way, it can be easily reversed if needed, or expanded. It also usually prevents these articles from being recreated. It's not easy coming up with the perfect redirect, but it's worth the effort! Anyway, keep up the good work, but please be careful. Owen× ☎ 03:53, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

killing time
You are correct - I confused Killing Time with a previous vandal. I've reinstated it to List of songs about suicide. My apologies. - DavidWBrooks 18:27, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
Shpants
I am quite surprised that you nominated it for speedy delete. What's wrong with a harmless redirect? 4 of the 8 votes were for redirect, thus meaning that there was a precedent for it. The original article was talking about three quarter pants, and the rewrite listed it explicitly. Its not a candidate for speedy deletion if the content is different to the original, as in this case. I was quite surprised to see you put this up for speedy deletion. At worst, its a very picky technicality. I really don't see what the harm is in putting a redirect in, even if only a small proportion of people use it as an alias for 3/4 pants. Some people do. Or are we running out of space on the servers now? Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 04:30, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
No. As I said before, the conclusion was that of Redirect. 4/8 said redirect, which was the most popular choice. Whilst the closer I suppose used their discretion to delete, it had already been agreed to redirect. Now I suppose I am expected to go through deletion review over this petty technicality. Semiprotection
I've semiprotected your user page (not talk, just User:ERcheck) because some nuisance editing from the AOL IP ranges was repeatedly defacing it.
If you'd like me to lift the semiprotection, drop me a note. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:02, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- Semiprotection prevents anonymous IPs and accounts below a certain age (a few days, if I remember correctly) from editing the page in question. Established editors–including you–can still edit the page. Full protection would prevent all non-admins from editing your user page; I'd rather avoid preventing you from editing your own user page. Cheers, TenOfAllTrades(talk) 17:00, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Categorization
Hi, you don't need to add articles to categories and their subcategories. For example, if someone is a general in the Marine Corps, they should only be categorized in Category:U.S. Marine Corps generals, not also Category:U.S. Marine Corps officers and/or Category:U.S. Marines. So you might have noticed me removing a lot of redundant categories. See WP:CG. Nice work on all the USMC articles, by the way. —Kenyon (t·c) 21:49, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comments on categories. Is there a simple way to view the categories and subcategories, etc. in a tree. If U.S. Marine generals is a subcategory of U.S. Marine officers, if I categorize a general, should the name appear under the U.S. Marine officers and U.S. Marines categories?

It's about time you finally created a "real" user page. (Very nice quote, great selection...I love it.) USMC cats
It is about 3AM my time and I am crapped out and can hardly keep my eyes open. I was wondering if you could help add some Categories to HMM-262 & HMLA-367. I see you have been editing USMC pages so I thought I'd ask. If not I'll try and get them later. Thanks. Like the revert to 1MAW by the way. Much cleaner.--Looper5920 16:22, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Another favor. Take a look at the HMLA section of List of United States Marine Corps aircraft squadrons. I was messing around with it and added the gallery. Do you think it is worth keeping and changing rest of list or just go back to the old way? --Looper5920 23:43, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
How the hell can Globalsecurity.com protect use of USMC images when all they are doing is cutting and pasting from the USMC webpages? That includes the histories as well. Also, I went back and tagged all of my USMC images with the categories you mentioned.--Looper5920 01:00, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Off the top of my head no I don't know of an official USMC site that has all of them. Best bet will be to do a Google image search and just use the one that pop up on Government pages but I say F-it. I'm using the ones on This guy because they are good quality and no matter what they say they {the patches] are the work of the US Gov and are open to public domain. Also, I am doing the voodoo to HMH-363 right now. SHould have her up and running and looking a hell of alot better in a few minutes.--Looper5920 01:33, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

It is done! Now all you have to do is replace the old image with this one: "Image:Hagee in MARPAT with Marine.jpg" I hope that this has solved the problem. Semper Fi Tony the Marine 17:25, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- I saw the article that's up for deletion. I'm against its deletion and in favor of the article being merged to the "United States Marine Corps" article. I'll keep my eye on it and merge it myself, if it isn't deleted. Tony the Marine 03:03, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Corn
I reverted your edit to the sunwise article, because it clearly refers to wheat. We don't use "corn" to refer to maize, except in phrases such as "sweet corn", or "corn on the cob". It certainly hasn't been grown here until well into the post-War period, and is still not a major crop thanks to our climate. --MacRusgail 14:39, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

[Teenage Wildlife]
Hi ERcheck, you've recently voted Teenage wildlife forum for deletion, can I draw your attention to the following links -
- BBC Stuart Maconle's Critical List At the bottom of the page the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) say 'Comprehensive fan site, with lyrics, pictures and discography'
- Scan of The Complete David Bowie The cover of notable Bowie biography The Complete David Bowie - author Nicholas Pegg, showing a mention of Teenage Wildlife (www.teenagewildlife.com)
Could you change your vote to keep?

Time limit for Speedy deletions under Category A8
Category A8 of [[Wikipedia:Candidates for Speedy Deletion provides:
An article that is a blatant copyright infringement and meets these parameters:
* Material is unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider (e.g. encyclopedia, news service) and; * The article and its entire history contains only copyright violation material, excluding tags, templates, and minor edits and; * Uploader makes no assertion of permission or fair use, and none seems likely and; * The material is identified within 48 hours of upload and is almost or totally un-wikified (to diminish mirror problem).
As user Keiphers had uploaded it on 18 January 2005, it had passed the time limit so I placed it as a copyvio as per normal process. The commercial content aspect was doubtful too. Capitalistroadster 16:49, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

- AS far as what needs to be done I was thinking that before anything else gets created I wanted to standardize what we have already. Make sure that all the units have the same style infobox and a link to the portal. I also am going through and doing the same for famous USMC persons. This is taking longer than I thought but I am slowly slogging through it. I also am thinking of creating a Famous Battles in USMC history page or something to that effect. Maybe just make it a category? Once everything is standardized I am going to make sure that every active/reserve unit has a page so there are no red links on the pages. Mostly it is grunt work that needs to be done then when that is ever finished I'll start looking at training commands, schools, etc......
-
- Two quick ones.... 1) I am having a hard time finding "Good" feature article. Any ideas for this week? I am reluctant to just throw something half decent up there but we may have to do that until our Portal gets a bit more robust and we have a large amount of articles to use. This actually leads to my 2nd point which is do you think it would be worth it to have a new section on the portal for "Collaboration of the Week" This way we can build up a decent feature articles database. Feature by our standards not the actual Wikipedia standards. that will have to wait till later. Thoughts?--Looper5920 03:38, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
