[edit] Advertisement?

I'm reasonably certain that this page isn't just one big ad for The Cartier Equine Learning Center but it could be misconstrued. Alternately it also sounds like someone wrote it as an essay for school and has contributed it here (which is a great start, but not quite encyclopedic). The contents of this page need to be correctly wiki-fied (that means using wikipedia list items), and broken up into logical, consistent sections. It would be great to get an image of EAL at work.

[edit] Suggested headings

  • what is equine assisted learning?
  • fundamental principles
  • benefits
  • course format
  • governing bodies

[edit] Unreferenced claims

Please fix the unreferenced claims. For example the article says: it is easy to understand why individuals with compromised moral qualities or ethical standards, find it difficult, if not impossible, to keep their secrets hidden when they start to work through exercises with horses. This is a very bold claim and needs a reference. Remember the Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:NPOV policies.

[edit] Acronyms

It's usually better to spell out the full phrase than use an acronym. Further, if the use of "EAL" for this field is really common, then it may be a good idea to rename the page appropriately.

[edit] New page structure

I've attempted to distill what I could understand from the previous article text and information online into an encyclopedic-style article. Since I don't really know anything about the topic I've also asked - via email - Ariana Strozzi, the contact address for the European Association for Horse Assisted Education and the office staff at the Cartier Equine Learning Center to have a look. It would be really good to have someone who knows about this, contribute more to describe:

  • why horses are uniquely suited to this task
  • what an example exercise is
  • common criticisms of the field etc

[edit] Edits

I'm guessing that the person who put up the original article was only familiar with some of the EGE resources so edited this to make it more of a general reference. I'll add more verifiable content when I've got a minute.

[edit] Training and Certification

This is almost begging people to add their organisation's learning/training center. Should we have it at all? Jarich (talk) 01:51, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I would personally toss ALL references to anyone's commercial establishment, per wiki guidelines, but not being any kind of expert on this, I didn't know if some were groups that have significant influence in the field...see WP:NOT for guidelines on commercial and external links. But I know that on the horse breed articles, we mostly keep links to the registries of various nations and toss ALL individual business establishments on the spot. Hope this helps.
