[edit] About

For almost two decades Equinox has hand-crafted some of India’s most path-breaking and memorable commercials, ranging from the Hamara Bajaj anthem to the Happydent film that is currently delighting the world.

Along the way there came together a diversity of directorial talent, Sumantra Ghosal, Ram Madhvani and Milind Dhaimade, who between them, have the maturity and range of experience to shine in every cinematic genre.

Helming this abundance of energy is Manoj Shroff, Having worked his way up the ranks from assistant to director and, now, producer at Equinox, Manoj brings discipline to our creativity. His organizational strength keeps Equinox supple and its directors free to do their job.

It is not a strength that has gone unnoticed.

Over the years Equinox has worked with every major client and every major advertising agency in the country. Emotional, slapstick, earthy, stylish, classical, contemporary - we've done it all.(Some of it even began with us.)

Along the way there have been awards aplenty. Besides being feted in London, Clio and Cannes, Equinox is the only production house in the country to win 'IAAFA Best Production House' three years in a row. It is also the only production house in the country to have two directors with a Cannes Award each.

We started making films before the advent of TV in India; today Equinox is still seen to be at the cutting-edge of advertising filmmaking. And so, clients and agencies return to us year after year. In the fickle world of advertising where today’s flavour is tomorrow’s has-been, that is the best compliment there is.

"Art Matters" A series of six short films conceptulised and directed by Sumantra Ghosal.

India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), India's first philanthropy dedicated to funding the arts, has supported dozens of artistic journeys since 1995. Here are glimpses of five such journeys - stories of a philosopher, a visionary, an interpreter, a traveler and an eccentric. Each artist sets out with a different goal, yet they are all united in their belief in the arts and their conviction that it can make a difference. Is creativity valuable because it means giving free rein to individual expression? Is culture a name for everything that provides us with a sense of who we are? Whatever your view of the arts, these films will speak to you. They present a range of meanings and experiences, and convey a sense of both personal fulfillment and social impact. 'Art Matters', the sixth film in the series, showcases IFA's unique profile as an arts funder. Through its support of cultural practice in a multiplicity of forms, IFA has helped to focus attention on the arts - that most vital and yet most neglected of fields.

"Everlasting Light" A 30-minute documentary on Mr Bachchan that premiered at a retrospective of Mr Bachchan at the Lincoln Centre, New York in April 2005.

Mr Richard Peña, head of the festival has said of the documentary "It's rare that a film on a major artist is itself a work of art".

In the documentary, the director Mr Ram Madhvani, looks at what makes Mr Amitabh Bachchan, perhaps India's greatest actor and icon, everlasting (incidentally Amitabh in Sanskrit means everlasting).

It is a documentary that uses Mr Salman Rushdie, Dr Shashi Tharoor, Mr Suketu Mehta and of course Mr Amitabh Bachchan to not only decode Mr Bachchan himself, but also popular Hindi cinema and its audience too.
