Presidential elections were held in Equatorial Guinea on 15 December 2002.
The four opposition candidates withdrew their candidacy shortly before the election,[1] but at least one remained on the voting sheet.
The election was won by incumbent president Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who claimed 97.1% of the votes with an estimated turnout of 98%.
The opposition candidates demanded fresh elections "in the best conditions of freedom, legality and transparency".[1]
