[edit] Atlantean Language Article
Could you please explain why you disabled those links on the Atlantean language article? You said they were "blacklisted". What did you mean by that?
Epigraphist 23:31, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately someone on the french wikipedia was heavily spamming links to that website... I don't know the details of it, but the result was that the link was added to the BlackList (banned links list) at meta. That means the system won't let anyone add the link to any article and as a side effect won't let articles with the link be edited until the link is removed.
- I "broke" the link on those pages as a temporary measure to let people edit the article. Basically just some housekeeping. I made sure the link was still there in the code so it could be replaced if the blacklisting was removed. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 19:21, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Supak!
Hey, Lawrence! I'm afraid I don't log into my zompist account very often... in fact, the last time I tried to, it had been so long that my account was disabled. :)
Anyway, it's good to see that there's still some interest in Atlantean out there! It's looks like you've done an impressive amount of work on the language. I'm starting to look through some of the work you've done, but it's been a long time since I've done anything with the language, and I don't really have access to a lot of what I've written. Anyway, to talk about stuff, you can email me at my gmail account seta.sojiro
With regard to the wikipedia article, I'm not really sure where to go. The problem with the policy of no original research is that, unless Marc Okrand publishes something, the work we've done is pretty much all there is on Atlantean (at least as far as its grammar is concerned). Given that, and the fact that Atlantean is a fictional language anyway, I think the best thing is probably to condense the grammar section to just a paragraph or so of the basics, and see how much more we can write about the language's non-fictional context (a la Jeffrey Henning's metahistory on langmaker). So I think we ought to remove a lot of the sections (like "Paul Sherrill's lost tense markers"), and look for another medium to publish a more detailed grammar.
(On a tangent, I've reconsidered my analysis about the tenses. I'm pretty sure there are just three tenses, with what I identified as "present perfect" actually being the past tense. And although I thought that -lim- was the affix for the past tense, now I think that the l is actually part of some roots, and just -im- is the real past tense marker. We can talk about this more through email...) Masily box 02:08, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notability of The Atlantean Language Institute
A tag has been placed on The Atlantean Language Institute, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Nyttend 03:27, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your article
You may have modeled the article after another article, but you still haven't demonstrated, or even asserted, that the group meets Wikipedia's notability standards. You are welcome to recreate the article, but if you have not asserted notability, it will probably be speedily deleted again. Natalie 03:47, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Each article on Wikipedia is considered on its own merits. So no, your contribution to another page has no bearing on whether or not this page is appropriate to Wikipedia. Nor am I sure what you mean by "other newpage moderator's site".
- And as I said before, it doesn't make any difference if your page is identical in structure or form to another existing page, such as the Klingon Language Institute (which, incidently, doesn't meet our policies either and has been proposed for deletion). What matters is notability, which is explained at Wikipedia: notability. Since you have either chose not to read it or did not understand it, the core policy is this: a subject is considered notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non trivial works from independent subjects. Wikipedia does not exist to create notability for something new. You may also be interested in the essay Wikipedia: What Wikipedia is not.
