Episcopal Diocese of Quincy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Diocese of Quincy, in the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, is located in the western portion of central Illinois.
The Diocese is named after the location of its original see city, Quincy. The Cathedral was transferred to Peoria in 1963.[1]
The diocese is one of the most traditional in the US and is Anglo-Catholic in nature. It is one of two in TEC that does not ordain women (the other is the Diocese of Fort Worth, since the Diocese of San Joaquin departed the Episcopal Church), although it has two female deacons.[2] It is also strongly opposed to homosexuality at the leadership level and objects strongly to the ordination of gay clergy.
The diocesan bishop, the Rt. Rev. Keith Ackerman, SSC, is a member of Forward in Faith, the Society of King Charles the Martyr, the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, the Guild of All Souls, the Society of Mary, and the Society of Our Lady of Walsingham.[3]
The Diocese of Quincy currently has between sixteen and twenty seminarians, with most attending Nashotah House in Nashotah, Wisconsin.
