[edit] Market Position
EPCOS is one the worldwide largest manufacturers of electronic components and systems. The company's portfolio includes capacitors, ceramic components, EMC filters, inductors, non-linear resistors, RF modules, surface acoustic wave components, surge arresters and ferrites.
In fiscal 2007 EPCOS posted sales of 1.44 billion euros and a profit of 64 million euros. The breakdown of sales according to industries served in fiscal 2007 was: automotive electronics 29%, information and communications technology 22%, industry electronics 22%, consumer electronics 12%, and distribution 15%.
EPCOS runs manufacturing and development facilities in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. The portion of workers in low-wage countries was approx. 70% in 2004. Further relocations of jobs and business activities were announced in 2004. In 2007, 56% of the company's 18,300 employees worked in Asia, 24% in Europe excluding Germany, 10% in Germany, and 10% in North and South America.
[edit] Strategy
EPCOS pursues a strategy of profitable growth. Its aim is to sustainably generate positive earnings and increase the value of the company. The strategy is driven by the company's extensive technological and production expertise, which in turn derives from decades of experience in the passive electronic components industry. Additional strategic factors of success include innovative strengths that leverage systematic research and development work to generate significant customer benefits – and, of course, the satisfaction of our customers.
A broad portfolio of both standard components and customized solutions leaves EPCOS ideally placed to satisfy the varied and constantly changing needs of different customers and applications. At the same time, this wide spectrum of product lines enables EPCOS to tap valuable synergies. Its products and services target dynamic markets in which the company aims to ramp up its presence and occupy market-leading positions. EPCOS is currently the global market leader in products that account for 60 percent of its sales and the European market leader in a further 30 percent of its products.
Where EPCOS concludes that, in isolated business activities, not even a concerted effort will give it the targeted market leadership position in the foreseeable future, corporate strategy is either to focus on specific market segments or to discontinue such business activities.

Worldwide EPCOS operates production facilities in Brazil, Spain, India, Hungary, Austria (Deutschlandsberg), USA, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Singapore and China.
